Money that is given to an individual to help them achieve something You don’t have to pay the money back A great way to fund your education Each scholarship has criteria set by the funder The funder is the person or organisation giving away the money (eg. universities, trusts, government departments…)

3 Who can apply for scholarships? Anyone! Criteria could be based on anything Carefully read the criteria to make sure you are eligible before you apply You can apply for more than one scholarship

4 Created and maintained by the Funding Information Service www.fis.org.nzwww.fis.org.nz Online database of over 3700 scholarships and grants for individuals Wide range of schemes, e.g. for tertiary studies, sports, arts, personal and professional development Contains contact details of the funders and link to application forms 8-10 new schemes added to BreakOut per week! 5 How do I use BreakOut? Use drop down lists to answer the questions If the question doesn’t apply, just leave it blank You will get a list of scholarships that match the criteria you have entered Look through the list to find the ones most relevant to you Read all the information given If you want to apply, contact the funder for more information and for an application form
