Anniversaries

Balance  Private gain and pubic good  Individual and society  Freedom and accountability  Learning & Teaching and research  Differing funding models

Changing Context

Modernisation of Higher Education Recommendation 1: Public authorities responsible for higher education should ensure the existence of a sustainable, well- funded framework to support higher education institutions’ efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Revised ESG Higher education institutions themselves also become more diverse in their missions, mode of educational provision and cooperation, including growth of internationalisation, digital learning and new forms of delivery. The role of quality assurance is crucial in supporting higher education systems and institutions in responding to these changes while ensuring the qualifications achieved by students and their experience of higher education remain at the forefront of institutional missions.

NSSE: What is engagement?  Student engagement represents two critical features of collegiate quality. The first is the amount of time and effort students put into their studies and other educationally purposeful activities. The second is how the institution deploys its resources and organizes the curriculum and other learning opportunities to get students to participate in activities that decades of research studies show are linked to student learning.

“Transition out of a deep crisis” The D/ES & HEA clearly looking for evidence-based data There appears a willingness to address the funding model The current funding model:  Cannot adequately respond to the current demand  Is not structured to meet anticipated future additional demand  Will inevitably impact the student experience in a more diverse student body  Will disadvantage Ireland in competing effectively in the international education market
