What caused The Civil War? The states in the North had different views on slavery than the states in the South! The Northern states disagreed with slavery while the Southern states agreed with slavery. When President Lincoln was elected, Southern states feared that Lincoln would put a stop to slavery! This caused the Southern states to decide that they wanted to be able to make their own choices pertaining to slavery. In order to be able to make their own choices, Southern states decided to break away from the United States. They formed a new union called the Confederate States of America.

What happened after the Southern states broke away from the Union? Slave states decided to create their own nation. They called their new nation the Confederate States of America.

Why did the Northern states and Southern states have different views on slavery? Many people that lived in the Southern states lived on farms called plantations. They depended on slaves to help grow crops and to complete work that needed to be done on the plantations. Many people living in Northern states were against slavery. They felt that slavery was wrong and should be abolished. Although farming was important in the North, the economy was driven by people working in factories.

Florida’s Role in the Civil War Like other Southern states, Florida’s economy was based on cattle and crops. Many people living in Florida disagreed with the idea of abolishing slavery. On January 10, 1861, Florida seceded from the Union and became part of the Confederacy. About 16,000 Floridians fought in the war.

How did Floridians help with the war? Once the war began, people living in Florida were busy growing crops and raising cattle to send to troops. They sent fish, pork, beef, fruit, and salt. Salt was an important resource for the army because it helped keep meat from spoiling. Clothing was also made and sent to the troops.

life After The civil war? In 1865, the Civil War finally ended. The Union won the war and slavery in the United States came to an end! Life after the war for people living in the South was very difficult! Many people had little money. Entire cities needed to be rebuilt and slave owners no longer could depend on slaves to help on the land. This caused many land owners to have to sell portions of their property. Life after the war in the North was not as difficult for people. People began to build more factories, which created jobs for many people! New machines were invented and this made farming much easier!
