Lifecycle overview - process Registrar works with program directions to define next year course offering From then on, the schedule is updated on a daily basis Creation and modification of canonical course sites Schedules are modified based on registration data Administrative timeline Academic timeline Create course sites for next semester using information transferred from PeopleSoft to Sakai’s Course Management. Updated on a daily basis after. First version of course offering for next academic year is transferred to Sakai

Lifecycle of a course site Site is created with default tool set: OpenSyllabus Resources /Citation Announcements When completed (or good enough for the first few lectures) the syllabus is published and is now available to the students and public During the semester, site content is modified, tools can be added, syllabus updated and published (OpenSyllabus) as needed Site is archived. It is still available in read-only mode. Can be used as starting point for the first version of the same course in the future using the CSM tool. Instructor or assistant prepare site usually using content from a previous semester site. The Course Site Manager tool is used for this purpose. Additional, optional, tools can also be added. Instructor or assistant cleans site including the syllabus and publish one last time before archival

The Course Site Management tool Main features Is a dashboard for power users who manage multiple sites. Publish/unpublish OpenSyllabus course outlines. Copy site content from one site to another. Import/export site content from/to file in zip format. Link/detach course sites in a parent-child relationship. Create new sites: mostly non-official sites which can later be copied in officials sites. 12th Sakai Conference – Los Angeles, California – June

The Course Site Management tool Why another tool? Why not use the worksite setup or another existing tool? Because OpenSyllabus implements some concepts not supported by other tool: Work and published spaces Hierarchical course outlines/sites To permit multi-site actions 12th Sakai Conference – Los Angeles, California – June
