VANDENBERG WARRIOR CHALLENGE MUD RUN Are you ready for the challenge? Are you ready for the mud? The route covers paved roads, ORV trails and the obstacle course. Mud pits courtesy of your friendly local 30 th Civil Engineer Squadron. The course is designed to test the physical and mental toughness needed for the Warrior Ethos -- the foundation of what it means to be an Airman. This is definitely not your average Team Vandenberg monthly run! You will run, walk, crawl and scramble through sand, obstacles, trails, mud pits and more. Are you ready for the challenge? DATE/TIME/START: June 30th, 1 p.m. Teams check in at Base Track between noon - 12:45 p.m. All participants must be at the track for a mandatory safety brief at 12:45 p.m. Run starts at the Base Track and ends at Cocheo Park (see map for full course). Takes the place of the normal monthly Vandenberg Run. Rules/attendance policy for monthly Vandenberg run applies (i.e. mandatory for 30th Space Wing Active Duty). Open to all Wing Tenant organizations. Open to DoD Civilians (waiver form required). Wing/CC Call at Cocheo Park after the run, with refreshments! REGISTRATION: All Teams (Squadron Challenge and Open Division) must register. All DoD Civilians must complete waiver forms. Individual runners are NOT required to register. REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER JUNE 20! Turn in completed registration forms and any required waivers to your Unit Fitness Program Manager or drop off at the new Fitness Center.

THE BASICS: DO wear old clothes and running shoes. DO NOT wear Air Force PT gear! SAFETY BRIEF: Due to the nature of the course, there will be a mandatory safety brief at 12:45 p.m. Safety will be the number one priority during the event. Runners will conduct themselves in a controlled and serious manner while navigating pits and obstacles. No headphones or jewelry in the mud pits – your iPod will no longer work and your jewelry will be forever lost in the mud! Individuals and teams competing for prizes must complete each obstacle and challenge station. Runners out only for the run may bypass (go around) mud pits. All runners will complete the challenge stations. Teams must start and finish together – no exceptions. Teams must cross the finish line arm-in-arm! There will be a check-in station at the Base Track. All teams must report to the station between noon and 12:45 p.m. Parking and Showers: Parking at Cocheo Park and the Obstacle Course is reserved for volunteers only. Showers at the Fitness Center, Annex, Airman/Family Readiness Center and HAWC will NOT be available for use. Race Divisions and Awards: Awards will be presented to the overall winners in the following divisions: Individuals: Male / Female Open Teams (Junior): Male / Female / Co-Ed Open Teams (Senior): Male / Female / Co-Ed Squadron Challenge Team ***There will be a spirit award for the best team uniform – judged at the check-in station – presented at end of race.***

Safety Reminders: MEDICAL CONDITIONS – Comply with all medical profile requirements. If you have a medical condition that may impact your health during the run, check with your medical health care provider before running the race. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE – Trained medical personnel and first responders will be on-site for medical assistance. FIRST AID AND WATER STATIONS – First aid and water stations will be located at the obstacle course and finish line. HEAT STRESS – Request medical assistance and stop immediately if during the run you have any of the following heat related danger symptoms/illnesses: heat rash, cramps, exhaustion, or stroke. HYDRATION – Drink fluids before, during and after the race. Water and thirst quenching drinks, such as Gatorade, are best; stay away from sodas. MUD PITS – Do not dive head first into the mud pits or sand obstacles. Warrior Run Tips: HEADPHONES – Headphones prohibited in the mud pits; water and electronics generally don’t mix! FELLOW TEAM MATES/RUNNERS – This is a “Warrior Run” so remember the Airman’s Creed; “I will never leave an Airman behind…”, so help your teammates and other runners if they need help. RUNNING ATTIRE – Wear grubby clothes and old sneakers. To qualify for an overall award you must complete all obstacles. Runners not competing for an overall award can save their shoes by going around the mud pits. CLEAN CLOTHES – Bring a change of shoes and clothes, there will be a rinse off area. Bring a trash bag to carry your muddy gear home without trashing your vehicle. HAIR AND JEWELRY – If you have long hair, it is best to put it up. Leave rings and necklaces at home. Runners at these types of events tend to lose jewelry in the mud or sand. START AS A TEAM, FINISH AS A TEAM – All teams must cross the finish line arm-in-arm. Teams not finishing in this manner will be disqualified from receiving any awards.

TEAM COMPETITION: Get in on the fun! Put a team together to compete in either the Open Team Division or the Squadron Challenge. Challenge your friends and co-workers to compete as a team. And don’t forget about the spirit award for the best team uniform! OPEN DIVISION JUNIOR MALE/ FEMALE/ CO-ED TEAM – Total combined age of all team members must be under 150 years. SENIOR MALE/ FEMALE/ CO-ED TEAM – Total combined age of all team members must be 150 years or greater. All Open Division teams comprised of five members. Co-Ed teams must include TWO members of the opposite sex. Open Division teams may be made up of any five persons (Active Duty or DoD Civilian) assigned to Vandenberg AFB. SQUADRON CHALLENGE One 5-person team representing your squadron, no age requirements. Each squadron may enter one team in the Squadron Challenge. Team composition will be Co-Ed, minimum one member of the opposite sex. One team member will also be from senior leadership (CC, DO, or Superintendent). All Squadron Challenge team members must be from the same squadron, no exceptions.
