1 Announcing the 2015 Chalk Banks Challenge and River Festival. The fun will be held on Saturday, May 16 th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Chalk Banks Access Area - Lumber River State Park in Wagram, NC. Contestants may compete in raft, recreational canoe or kayak sprint races – as well as a 5K trail run to support the Scotland County Cross Country Team. The highlight of the day will be the homemade raft race. A Scotland County tradition, raft races will be divided into two classes: single person and group (two or more people). All rafts must be homemade and may not be motorized in any way. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Recreational Class Canoe Aluminum, plastic or fiberglass canoes not longer than 17'4". Minimum width at the 4" inch waterline is 33". Minimum weight is 60 pounds. Recreational Kayaks A type of kayak that is designed for the casual paddler. Usually at least 27 - 30 inches at the beam. Generally less than fourteen feet in length. Material - molded polyethylene, etc. NCCRA RECREATIONAL CANOE AND KAYAK REGISTRATION $10 entry fee covers both canoe and kayak race. Circle race or races you are entering. Park entrance is on the left, ¼ miles north of Wagram. From Fayetteville – Travel south on U.S. 401. Cross over the river into Scotland County. Entrance is ¼ mile on right. From Charlotte – Follow U.S. 74 east to Laurinburg. Take US 401 bypass exit. Follow 401 north to Wagram. Park entrance is on left. From Southern Pines – Follow 211 south to U.S. 401. Take 401 south to to Wagram. Park entrance is on the right. From I-95 – Take exit 13B toward Laurinburg/Rockingham onto U.S. 74 west. Take US 401 bypass exit. Follow 401 north to Wagram. GPS coordinates for Chalk Banks Canoe Landing – (N-34-55.584’/W-079-21.281’) Official Rules No alcoholic beverages allowed. All occupants shall wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved lifesaving device. Contestants are duty bound to help others in jeopardy. Any racer not finishing must report immediately to race officials. All canoeists must use single blade paddle. All rafts must be homemade in both the single and multi-person categories. Paddles do not have to be homemade Contestants must bring their own canoe or kayaks. No canoe, kayak or raft is to have any motorized propelling device. Canoes, kayaks, and rafts must stay in the water throughout the race. Overland portages are not allowed. Interfering with another vessel for the purpose of hindering its progress will result in disqualification. Runners must stay on marked trail. All State Park rules are in effect while in the Chalk Banks Access Area and/or on the Lumber River. Mail entries to : Town of Wagram P.O.
