Choices in RDA Core and “Core if” elements –E.g. Name of publisher is a core element –Name of distributor is core if Name of publisher is not available NLNZ activity – looking at LC additions to RDA’s core element set as candidates for additional core elements for NLNZ Alternatives, optional omissions, etc. –Alternatives –Either/or –Optional omission –Optional addition –“If it is considered important for identification or access” NLNZ activity – looking at LC policy statements and our current policies and creating draft decisions

Alternatives, optional omissions, etc. –E.g. RDA “Optional Omission Abridge a statement of responsibility only if it can be abridged without loss of essential information. Do not use a mark of omission (…) to indicate such an omission. Always record the first name appearing in the statement. “ –LC practice for Optional omission: Generally do not abridge a statement of responsibility. –NLNZ draft practice for Optional omission: Generally do not abridge a statement of responsibility. (follow LC) Include affiliation information in a statement of responsibility if closely linked to a name (physically or grammatically). Omit postal address details, footnotes and contact details spatially separated from a name. (additional instruction)
