RESOLVE: TO LIVE A LIFE THAT GLORIFIES GOD

1 Corinthians 10:31 “ Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” NKJV

TO GLORIFY GOD IS THE GREATEST THEME IN ALL THE UNIVERSE.

Psalm 115:1 Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. NKJV

THE SUPREME OBJECTIVE IN THE LIFE OF ANY MAN OR WOMAN SHOULD BE TO GIVE GOD THE GLORY. AND THE CONSEQUENCE OF DOING THAT WILL BE UNBOUNDED JOY.

THE LORD JESUS IS MOST WORTHY OF GLORY: Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9—11

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:17 “To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen” Jude 25

A. HOW ARE WE TO GLORIFY GOD? 1. Glorify God Through Our Salvation. God is glorified when we bow and confess Jesus as Lord. Rom. 10:9-10; Phil. 2:9-11; Acts 4:12; 2 Thess. 2:13-14

God is going to display His glory in heaven…as a token of His wisdom forever through His work of salvation (Ephesians 3:10). 2 Corinthians 4:6, 15 Acts 13:48-49; Eph 1:12

2. Glorify God Through Consistent Life Testimony and Service. 1 Corinthians 10:31 John 14:12-14 Matthew 5:16 1 Peter 4:11

When we serve, we must: a. be willing to sacrifice self and self-glory. Matthew 6:1-4 b.be content to do His will at any cost. John 8:54-58; 12:27-28

c. be content to go unrecognized as long as God gets the glory. Phil 1:17,18…whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached… I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice…20…also Christ will be magnified in my body… 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. NKJV

3. Glorify God Through Confession of Sins. 1 John 1:9 Confession is fully agreeing with God about the responsibility for sin and the awfulness of it.

When we confess our sins, we are humbling ourselves before God, acknowledging His holiness, experiencing His faithfulness and righteousness in forgiving us, accepting any chastisement He may give, and therefore glorifying Him.

Hebrews 9:14 Joshua 7:19 Genesis 3:12 Revelation 16:8–9

4.Glorify God Through Active Faith and Trust. Romans 4:20 Philippians 4:19 God is glorified when we believe in Him, when we rest in His full assurance.

5.Glorify God Through Bearing Much Fruit. John 15:8 Philippians 1: Peter 2:9 Colossians 1:10

Spiritual fruit is evidence to the world of the results of an obedient life. The fruit we bear reveals the character of God to those who don’t know Him.

6. Glorify God Through Praise and Worship. Psalm 50:23 “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God."

Psalm 100, 107 – Praise and worship honors God. God has already established the pattern of His faithfulness, and His wondrous works are a continual reminder that He has never proved unfaithful.

7. Glorify God Through Endurance in Suffering. “But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God” 1 Peter 4:14, 16

It may be that (some) God will call to suffer martyrdom, but whether or not He does, we must worship Him by the willingness to suffer even death for Him. To suffer for Him is the supreme honor to His holy name.

“The heart of true religion is to seek and find one’s deepest joy, not in spiritual lotus-eating, but in discovering through each successive storm and conflict the mighty adequacy of Christ to save.” J.I. Packer, Hot Tub Religion, pp

8.Glorify God Through Contentment. Philippians 4:11, 12 Psalm 16:5-9

Contentment testifies to the wisdom and sovereignty of God and thereby glorifies Him. Discontent, on the other hand, is essentially rebelliousness. The discontented person is, in effect, blaming God.

Philippians 4:19–20 Glorifying God means that we praise Him with a full heart in absolute contentment, knowing that our lot is God’s plan for us now. Accepting it with contentment gives Him glory.

9. Glorify God Through Christ-centered Prayers. John 14:13 Prayer does not inform God of things He hasn’t heard—its purpose is to allow Him to manifest His glory in giving an answer.

10. Glorify God Through Gospel Proclamation. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 Acts 13:48

Presenting the Word clearly and accurately always gives Him glory. We honor Him by making His Word known and understood.

11. Glorify God Through Sexual Purity. I Corinthians 6: Thess. 4:3-4,7-8

12. Glorify God Through Spiritual Unity in the Church. John 13:31-32, 35 Acts 2:42-47 Romans 15:5-7

We glorify God only when with one mind and one mouth we declare the message of Christ clearly and accurately to an unsaved world.

B. HOW TO ENJOY GOD When we live to glorify God, He responds by giving us overwhelming joy. Psalm 16:8-9, Habakkuk 3:18

Live to the glory of God, and joy will come. Psalm 51:12 John 15:11

Joy is the birthright of every believer, and those who do not seize it are missing a very important—and very practical—truth.

Acts 13:52 Romans 14:17 The Spirit-filled life brings its own built-in joy.

C. ENJOYING GOD FOREVER We can know God and enjoy Him now. We can have joy in God now and in the future. Psalm 73:25, 26 1 Thessalonians 4:17

To God be the glory, great things He hath done, & loved He the world that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, And opened the Life Gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!

Oh come to the Father, through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory— great things He has done.
