PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE Students will be asked the following questions : 1. Why do we drink water? 2.What are the sources of water? 3. Can we consume water from all sources? 4. How do you think that water gets dirty ? 5. Do you know about water pollution?

MOTIVATION Dear students, water is very valuable for life & we can’t survive without water. It is very amazing that there is water everywhere on Earth but a very little available to drink. Being our life very precious, we must drink clean water. There is no existence of life without water. Further, how polluted water can be hazardous for our life. Therefore, we must know about water pollution. Can we survive without water?

WHERE DO WE USE WATER ?

DO YOU KNOW THE RELATION BETWEEN SALT AND FRESH WATER ?

ANNOUCEMENT OF THE TOPIC Dear students, today we will learn about the topic – WATER POLLUTION

CONSTRUCTIVIST PRESENTATION Dear students, as you have rightly said that there are various sources of water such as – Oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, wells etc. on earth. ¾ part of earth surface is covered with water, but water available for drinking is scarce i.e. less than 1%. Among this quantity available for drinking, large amount of water is unfit. Therefore, you must know about the water pollution. What do you know about water pollution? Water Pollution- Any change in the quality of water due to the presence of harmful materials which makes water unfit for drinking is called water pollution. These harmful materials are called as pollutants. Dear students, see here at the pictures :

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION ?

Open defecation

What do you observed from these pictures ? Yes! Are you able to find out various pollutants. Following are the pollutants /causes of water pollution: 1. Industrial wastes. 2. Sewage water. 3.Garbages in water. 4. Dead bodies of plants & animals in water. 5. Washing & Bathing in water sources. 6. Most importantly open defecation. 7. Insecticides & pesticides.

Treatment plants:

Assignments to various groups: Group 1.(ocean) ….What are various steps to make muddy water clean for drinking purpose. Frame one question & its answer in your own words from this content. Group 2.(River) ……Write the role of society to make water sources clean. Frame one question & its answer in your own words from this content. Group 3.(Lake).....Name various diseases caused by polluted water. Frame one question & its answer in your own words from this content. Group 4.(Glacier) ……Write different names of pollutants, which causes water pollution. Frame one question & its answer in your own words from this content.

Accomplishment of work & presentation by the group: Students shall be asked to present their experience regarding the above activities through their group leader.

Evaluation: Evaluation of students shall be done through different questions regarding the water pollution. 1.Why is water important to us? 2.What are various causes of water pollution? 3.What are harmful effects of water pollution? 4. What are general steps to reduce water pollution? 5.Describe water pollution as whole?

Home assignments: 1. Write steps to reduce water pollution in your locality. 2. Make a working model of water treatment plant.
