1 Teacher’s Resource Page
Create Your Own Planet Introduction Tasks Essential Question Process Evaluation Rubric Conclusion Teacher’s Resource Page

2 Introduction We all live on planet Earth. If you could create your own planet what would it be called? What would it look like, what do you need to survive?

3 Tasks At the end of the lesson each student will better understand the solar system. They will understand what makes a planet livable and the components that make up a planet. Students will learn what effects our environment and how we interact with the environment.

4 Essential Question What make a planet livable?
Why are we able to live on Earth?

5 Process Students will get into groups of 4 and work as a team to create a new found planet. First they need to do research on planet earth to figure what you need to survive. Each group will need to explain what is on that planet. Ex. Do people live on the planet? Is there food and water? Do you float or is there gravity? Is there an Atmosphere? Is there an ocean? Once the group has decided what there planet name is, what is on it and what you can do on it, you will need to persuade the class why this is a good planet to live on. By the end of the project students will vote on what the best planet would be to live on.

7 Conclusion At the end of the project every student will know what we as humans need to survive. They will also learn about our solar system as a whole and what effects planets.

8 Teacher’s Resource Page
Sunshie State Standards knows that the planets differ in size, characteristics, and composition and that they orbit the sun in our Solar System. (SC.E.1.2.4) knows ways that plants, animals, and protists interact. (SC.G.1.2.1) knows that a successful method to explore the natural world is to observe and record, and then analyze and communicate the results. (SC.H.1.2.2) knows that to compare and contrast observations and results is an essential skill in science. (SC.H.1.2.4) knows that data are collected and interpreted in order to explain an event or concept. (SC.H.3.2.2) Technology Foundation Standards Technology research tools Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. Students use technology tools to process data and report results. Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.
