BCCA Library Loans Policy We serve the people of BC and Yukon. Any BC or Yukon resident may borrow items designated as Patient or Public. Only BCCA-employed staff may directly borrow items designated as Professional. Other health professionals wanting to borrow Professional resources, must arrange for another library to request an Inter-library loan from BCCA. (This can be done very quickly though!) Pamphlets: single copies or a photocopy only, no bulk orders.
What about Journal Articles? Health professionals are able to come in to any of our libraries to photocopy articles (copy charges apply) Articles from journals owned by BCCA can be requested as Inter-Library loans, to be sent to your local library. We are not typically able to offer a direct mail-out service to external health professionals.
What’s available online? Pubmed.gov will link you to free full-text, if it is available. Many publishers will now provide free access to their journal content after a 6 or 12 month embargo, and increasing numbers of journals are immediately Open Access. This means you can see the citation and read the abstract, but the full-text of the article will not be available for those many months after publication. If you really want to know which journals this applies to the embargo list is here:
