So you say to the Library Chik… “I found this journal article in a database and I can’t get it to give me the full text!” Let’s look at the article that you found in the database, PsycInfo: The title of the journal is: Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Find if C-N Library has a journal title?

1. You can follow the Check Link Source in the database citation (if available): To do this: Notice that the citation says Abstract or Citation. You click on “Check Linksource for More Information.”

Here is what it looks like to click on “Check Linksource.” It will connect to the “E-journal List” to check if the article is available full-text in another database. The journal is not available full-text in another database so you will need to see if it is available in print or microfilm in the 3 rd floor Periodical Collection. To do this, click on the “Check library holdings for this journal.”

How do you search this journal title in the Library Catalog? Click on Library Catalog.

2. Check E-Journals List: To do this: Open another browser window to the Library Homepage so you can still see the citation in the database in the first window. Click on E-Journals List under Library Resources.

Look at what you find from that search: Let’s click on one of these links to see if the article is full text.

Look at the article citation again: It is in Vol, 43, issue 9, Sept. 2004, pp. 1124-1133.

The full text article -

3. Search the Library Catalog to find if a journal is in print or microfilm in the library. All Periodicals in print are located on the 3 rd floor of the library, arranged alphabetically by title.

If C-N Library does not have the journal for an article that you need, you may still be able to get it – through a service called Interlibrary Loan! Scan this information on Interlibrary Loan.Interlibrary Loan To send an ILL request for an article, a book, or a chapter of a book, go to the Library Catalog from the Library Homepage.

Click on the form that you need: Fill in the Bibliographic Information for the item on the form.

Check to make sure that C-N does not have the title. Fill out your info. You need to allow 2 weeks – even though it may not take that long! Circulation staff will contact you when your ILL request comes in.
