53 Northern Health Authority Program Highlights Intern centered environment Offers a diverse and hands-on learning experience Opportunity to self-direct internship placements Young work force Dietitians within the north are keen to be preceptors Supportive teaching environment from within the profession and from other health professionals Continuing education opportunities with medical rounds, journal clubs and webinars

54 Intern Comments I think it is important for interns to know that the North is a great opportunity to gain a broad perspective of a small town dietitian’s job. They have a lot of autonomy and flexibility with their work and make a lot of great things happen. The Northern Health dietitians are wonderful and very knowledgeable, I have met so many wonderful people along the way that it is hard to leave each community, but know I have built some amazing friendships that I hope to keep in contact with for years to come. People just need to be a bit adventurous and leave their comfort zone to experience what great things life has to offer. Traveling around to the different towns gives you an idea of what’s available around the north and which communities you might want to work in. You may be surprised and end up really liking a town that you have never been before.

55 Frequently asked questions Are we required to go to all Northern Health sites? What if I don’t have a car? What about accommodation? What about leisure activities?

56 Northern Health may be suited for you if: Have an interest in practicing in a smaller community Enjoy working in diverse settings Enjoy a sense of independence and adventure Enjoy seasonal outdoor activities as well as the Arts University of Northern BC
