BUNNY LANTERN

Place BACK of envelope on table in front of you, with flap up and open.

Insert bunny pattern into envelope, with pattern side DOWN toward table.

Close flap (do not glue). Turn over so that bunny face is visible.

Using Black Sharpie, trace over bunny pattern as it shows through envelope.

Thicken lines with Black Sharpie for emphasis if desired.

Remove pattern piece from envelope.

Design bunny eyes, and practice drawing on scrap paper. Here are some examples.

With pencil, draw eyes on bunny face on envelope. Redraw with Black Sharpie.

Lay pink paper on top of bunny ear pattern. Using pencil, draw shape for inner ear.

Fold pink paper in half. Cut along lines to form two inner ears.

Using scissors, remove small sections of inner ear to create an interesting shape.

They might look like this.

Using glue stick, put glue on back of each inner ear. Attach on bunny’s ears.

Cut bunny out along Black Sharpie lines. Make sure to hold envelope flap closed, but not glued, while cutting. DO NOT CUT LINES AT SIDES OF BUNNY CHEEKS.

This will create a glue tab on the back of each ear.

Peel off two (1 1/2”) circle stickers and stick on bunny face as cheeks.

Using pencil mark two dots on each sticker.

Place hand inside bunny face. Carefully poke hole with compass point at each dot through front layer only. The holes are a place holder for the whiskers.

Take one piece of pipe cleaner (black or white). Bring tips together. Pinch bottom together. Open at top to form a “V” shape.

Carefully insert pipe cleaner “V” with tips toward inside of bunny face, through small holes in cheeks. Pull gently.

Shape whiskers as desired, or leave straight.

Lick glue on back of ear tabs and glue tabs down on back of each ear.

Take third circular sticker and place INSIDE of the front of bunny face, centered between ears.

Holding envelope together, punch hole through center of circle sticker.

Insert Glow stick with string attached into bunny envelope. Separate string ends, and thread each one through holes, from inside to outside.

Tie twice at top of head. Bring ends together and tie onto stick by wrapping and knotting.

Create white lotus flower which we learned in a previous lesson. Turn the bunny around and attach the lotus flower low on the bunny to create tail.

After dark, students will carefully snap glow stick to light bunny lantern.
