Nickname, Region in the U.S., Capital City, Major Cities and Population Missouri’s nickname is Mother of the West. It is also referred to as Mighty Mo. Missouri is located in the Midwest region of the U.S. The capitol of Missouri is Jefferson City. Three major cities are: St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield. The current population is 5,998,927 people. ( via the 2010 census)

State flag, State Bird, and the State Tree The state symbols are: The Eastern bluebird (bird) and The Flowering dogwood (tree). On the right is the flag and state seal of Missouri.

Current Governor & State Senators The current governor is Jay Nixon and he is Democratic Missouri has 2 senators. One is Roy Blunt. He is Republican. The other is Clarie McCaskill and she is Democratic.

Borders and Geography The states that border Missouri are: Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Above the Missouri river, there are plains and rolling hills. Below, there is the Ozark Plateau, with cliff, valleys, streams, natural springs, and waterfalls.

Natural Resources/Agriculture/Farming Some natural resources found in our state are trees, corn, cotton, and mint. Our state would be good for farming and agriculture because it has a lot of open land and temperatures are good for growing.

History and Additional Historical Facts Statehood: 1821 Missouri became a U.S. state Missouri became a U.S. territory in Flooding displaced 30,000 people and killed 25 in 1993.

Places to Visit You can visit the Gateway Arch. It is 630 feet tall and is the largest monument in the United States. You can also visit the Missouri River and take a boat ride and enjoy the most beautiful view.

Additional Facts Missouri founded its first private school in 1774 Steam and coal plants generate about 80 percent of Missouri’s power. The state’s largest land region is the Ozark Plateau. Missouri had some amazing people. One of them was Harry S. Truman. He was born in Missouri. He became the 33 rd president. Missouri’s farms cover two-thirds of Missouri’s land area. Some materials found in Missouri’s mines are copper, silver, lead, limestone, and zinc.
