2. Nickname, Region in U.S., Capital City, Major Cities, Population  The nickname of our state is the Palmetto state  Our state is in the Southeast region  Our capital is Columbia  Some major cities in South Carolina are Greenville, Charleston, Rock Hill  Our population is 4,723,732 people

4. Current governor, and state senators  This is are governor Nikki Haley.  This is one of the senators Tim Scott.  This is are second senators Lindsey graham.

5. Borders and Geography  The states that border our state is North Carolina, Georgia and the Atlantic Ocean  Although South Carolina is the 11 th smallest state its land is incredibly diverse. It contains sandy beaches, flat land, rolling hills, mountains

6. Natural Resources/Agriculture and Farming  Granite, sand and gravel  Our state would be good for farming because the largest crops grown there are tobacco, soybeans and cotton

7. History and Additional Facts  In 1778 South Carolina becomes the eighth state.  Charlestown name is changed to Charleston in 1783.  South Carolina becomes the first state to succeed from the Union in 1860  In 2011 Nicki Haley becomes the first female govnor of South Carolina.

8. Places To Visit  Steeple chase (horse race) that takes place in late March.  There is a stock car race at Darlington in May.

9. Additional facts  The eastern part of South Carolina is a lowland that borders the Atlantic Ocean.  South Carolina had the first government supported lending library in 13 original colonies.  Carolina is Latin form of Charles.
