4  Capital city: Carson City  Major cities: Las Vegas, Virginia City, and Henderson City.  Population: 2,700,551 people

5  State Bird: Mountain Bluebird  State Flower: Big Sagebrush  State Tree: Great Basin Bristlecone Pine and Single Leaf Pinon.

6  Current Governor: Brian Sandoval  Current Senators: Dean Heller, and Harry Reid

7  Borders: California, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon  Geography: The Sierra Mountains stretch from North to South, Humboldt River, Truckee River, Carson River, Colorado River, Walker River, Lake Tahoe And Lake Mead.

8  Farming/Agriculture: Our state is not good for farming because there is 9 inches of rain each year. Did you know that Nevada is one of the driest places in the country?

9  Statehood: October 31 st,1864  Historical Fact 1: In the 1830’s William Wolfskill blazed a route called the Old Spanish trail from Santa Fe to Las Vegas.  Historical Fact 2: During the early 1870’s the U.S government limited the use of silver in its money system.  Historical Fact 3: In the 1870’s mining companies dug the richest silver in Nevada.

10  The college: The Great Basin College, Elko  The university: Rosman University of Health Sciences, Henderson  Places to Visit: If you visit Las Vegas you can go to a ton of casinos and gamble.  Also you can stay in Caesar Palace, relax and do whatever you want.

11  At the end of the Mexican War the United States acquired the Nevada region from Mexico.  Most of Nevada’s soil is a grayish-brown color. Most areas have sparse coverings of grass or brush.  Nevada’s chief natural recourses are its vast mineral deposits, wildlife and its beautiful scenery.  Nevada’s deserts have many cacti, and low bushes. These include bitter bush, mesquite, rabbit brush, sage brush.  Nevada has limited rainfall. It needs to be conserved and used carefully.  Nevada has few large animals, but hundreds of small animals live in the state.
