6  Iowa’s borders are Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Illinois, and Missouri.  Iowa has many rolling hills and some of the richest and deepest topsoil in the U.S.

7  Some natural resources are oats, hay, soy beans, cattle, and dairy products.  Iowa is great for farming because Iowa grows lots of healthy crops: corn, pork, hay, and oats. Except for California, no state exports more farming agricultural products. Iowa has more than 90,000 farms.

8  Iowa became a state in 1846.  Iowa’s history has been closely tied to its corn. During World War 1 prices for corn were high because it was needed to feed troops. 1917-1919.  Iowan Herbert Hoover was elected U.S president in 1928.  Iowan Norman E. Borlaug received the Noble Peace Prize in 1970 for helping bring up the amount of food production.

9  The Governors Mansion, Terrance Hall. You can take a tour of the treasured mansion, built in 1869.  The Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, which takes place every July. You can enjoy the jazz music made by Bix Beiderbecke.

10  One of Iowa’s favorite sports is bicycling. Since 1973 thousands of cyclists from all over the world come to Iowa in the last week of July. They did this to compete in a week long competition, from one side of the state to the other.  Iowa has produced some famous people like: Herbert Hoover 31 st president.  Iowa’s state flower is a wild rose.  Iowa is one of the greatest farming states in the U.S.  Iowa’s farmers provide about 7% of the nations food supply.  The first public library built in Iowa was in Fairfield,1853.  Iowa’s first school opened in 1830.  Iowa has 9 cities with populations of 50,000 or more. The largest of these cities is Des Moines, which also is the state capital.  Nearly 40% of the people of Iowa live in the states rural areas.
