Properties of Real Numbers

Commutative Property of + or x 2  3 = 3  2 Two numbers switch places. Associative Property of + or x 1 + (2 + 3) = (1 + 2) + 3 2  (3  5) = (2  3)  5 Three numbers, parenthesis move.

Distributive Property 4  (2 + 3) = 4  2 + 4  3 Multiplication distributes over addition. Identity Properties of + or x 3 + 0 = 3 or 3  1 = 3 The same number is on the left and the right of the equal sign.

Inverse Properties of + or x The answer is either 0 for addition or 1 for multiplication. Multiplicative Property of Zero 5 x 0 = 0 A number times zero equals zero.
