2015 Fund Drive Upsilon Nu Scholarship and Social Action Foundation BACKGROUND INFORMATION Upsilon Nu Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was chartered October 11, 1971 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. In 1976, Upsilon Nu Chapter established the Kavansa B. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of founder Kavansa B. Smith. Brother Smith was a teacher at Thompson Middle School in Richmond. The Chapter has awarded scholarships annually to deserving Richmond area high school graduates ranging from book awards to $1000 awards. The maximum annual total amount awarded has been $12,000, with the total awards being in excess of $110,000. Upsilon Nu meets its annual obligation to the Fraternity's national initiatives involving Scholarship and Social Action. Programs include contributions / membership in the NAACP, UNCF, and American Cancer Society. Upsilon Nu Chapter has shown its commitment to the cardinal principle of Scholarship through the establishment of the Upsilon Nu Scholarship and Social Action Foundation. The foundation received its 501(c)(3) charitable organization status in July Gifts to the foundation may be tax deductible. Classified - Unclassified

Box 75421, Richmond, VA EIN # UNSSAF BACKGROUND The Upsilon Nu Scholarship and Social Action Foundation was founded in 1999 with the expressed purpose of providing a vehicle to effectively support social action and scholarship activities in the greater Richmond area. The foundation operates in conjunction with the Upsilon Nu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and utilizes resources from the fraternity to support these initiatives. The foundation is not for profit and is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization by the federal government. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Scholarship and Social Action Foundation is to serve as the charitable arm of the Upsilon Nu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. to provide funding for scholarship and community service programs. PROGRAMS Since July 2000, the foundation has provided more than $ 100,000 in funds for scholarships to high school students and funds to support various programs including sponsorships for students participating in various community activities, Thanksgiving and Christmas basket programs for needy families in the Richmond area, and sponsorship of the annual Omega Talent Hunt held by the Richmond Area chapters of the Fraternity Classified - Unclassified
