4 What is The Links Foundation? The Links Foundation, Incorporated was created by The Links, Incorporated therefore, it is committed by choice to be the guidance, purpose and determination to support, enhance and expand the programs set forth by The Links Incorporated. The Links Foundation provides a means of securing tax exemption and tax deduction for members of The Links, Incorporated and others including corporations making contributions to the Foundation in support of activities falling within the guidelines of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation is an arm of The Links, Incorporated and is governed by its Board of Directors and members.

5 Purposes of the Foundation The purposes of the Links Foundation are to: Design, support and conduct charitable and educational activities useful to the individual and beneficial to the community, and Receive contributions and pay them over to organizations that are described in the Code and exempt from taxation under the Code.

9 Fundraisers Chapters may conduct fundraisers in two ways: Fundraisers through the Links Foundation, Incorporated Funds are deposited in the name of the Chapter with the Foundation. Provides corporations, business enterprises, groups/individuals making contributions to the fundraiser to receive the benefit of a tax deduction. Tickets must include the following: “For the benefit of The Links Foundation, Incorporated.” All tickets sold must include a statement of the tax deductible portion of the price. (Example: “$50.00 is tax deductible) Fundraisers given for the benefits of a chapter The chapter is not authorized by federal law to grant a tax deduction to the groups/individuals contributing to the fundraiser.

10 Tax Deductible Donations Membership dues and fees are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Checks for tax deductible donations of less than $250.00 must be made payable to the chapter with notation “For Benefit of The Links, Foundation, Incorporated” Donations of $250.00 or more must be made payable to “The Links Foundation, Incorporated and sent directly to the Foundation by the Chapter. Chapters that sponsor fundraisers and use the name of The Links Foundation, Incorporated but do not deposit the money in the Foundation, shall be fined $1,000.00 for each infraction.

11 Ways The Links Foundation, Incorporated Distributes Funds

12 Grants-in-Aid The Foundation has made grants of over one million dollars to various organizations with programs compatible with the purposes of The Links, Incorporated and allowable under the Code.

13 Grants-in-Aid The Board is empowered to: Design, support and conduct educational activities useful to individuals, groups and communities. Provide services to youth, directed towards upgrading academic and other skills and preventing juvenile delinquency. Support and defend human and civil rights secured by law. Provide charitable services to senior citizens. Receive and disburse contributions to organizations which are exempt from taxes under 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.

14 Examples of Contributions & Endowments Contributed $46,000 to Africare for the construction of a Maternal Waiting Home, in the Name of The Links, Incorporated and distributed 1,100 Liberian mama kits in rural bong County, Liberia. The Links Maternal Waiting Home was dedicated during The Links, Incorporated Delegation Visit in March 2013. ~ One-million dollars from The Links Endowment Fund has been awarded to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN. The final payment of $425,000 is placed with The Memphis Community Foundation to provide Operating Support. The Civil Rights Museum can exist and sustain itself well into the future.
