Butterflies

A Butterfly’s Life Cycle Egg Larva Pupa Butterfly

Butterfly Facts A caterpillar changes into a butterfly by going through 4 stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Each stage has a different goal—for instance, caterpillars need to eat a lot and adults need to reproduce.

Ladybugs

Ladybug’s Life Cycle

Ladybug Facts Their eggs are yellow and often stuck to leaves. The eggs hatch in one week. The larvae have six legs and can run around, but do not have wings. They are black with small orange or white markings and they will shed their skin three times before going into the pupa stage. Attached to leaves, stems or rocks, the pupa is orange and black. Before the wings harden, the newly emerged adult is yellow and then they turn to a red color with black spots.
