Account Manager Overview DLS2002 [HOME] Account Manager Overview Account Manager Overview The Account Manager is used to create and view files and folders. In addition, a number of other options including modem/PC-Link selection and configuration, display options, help, etc… are available in menu options. The following is a brief overview of the Account Manager interface.

Creating Account Folders DLS2002 [HOME] Creating Account Folders Creating Account Folders Account Folders are used to organize customer account files. For example, folders can be created to store files alphabetically, by geographic area, panel type or application. NOTE: At least one Account Folder must be created. Do not store Accounts in the ‘Templates’ folder. This folder is reserved for Account templates only.

Creating Account Folders DLS2002 Creating Account Folders Account Folders are displayed in the far left window called the Folder List. To create a new Account Folder, click the Create Folder button.

Creating Account Folders DLS2002 Creating Account Folders A window will appear. Type the name of the new Folder (for example, Residential Accounts). When finished click the Create button.

Connecting to Existing Folders DLS2002 [HOME] Connecting to Existing Folders Connecting to Existing Folders Accounts can be stored in a common directory or folder, usually on a network drive, so that all DLS users have access to the same database. The DLS2002 can be instructed to connect to any directory or folder so that it can access the Accounts stored within. Also, if the DLS2002 is installed to a different directory than the older DLS-3 software, the older DLS-3 folders can be connected to, so the Accounts are available in the DLS2002 software.

Connecting to Existing Folders DLS2002 Connecting to Existing Folders To connect to an existing folder, click on Account Workspace.

Connecting to Existing Folders DLS2002 Connecting to Existing Folders A window will appear. Either enter the path name for the Folder or click the Browse button to find the Folder.

Connecting to Existing Folders DLS2002 Connecting to Existing Folders After clicking the Browse button, use the explorer to highlight the Folder you want to connect to. This can be a Folder on a network drive or a Folder from an older DLS-3 installation. In this example the DLS2002 was installed to a different directory than the DLS-3 software. To use the DLS-3 files, each Folder must be connected to in this manner. Highlight the Folder you want to connect to then click OK.

Creating Accounts DLS2002 Creating Accounts [HOME] Creating Accounts Creating Accounts Accounts are used to store or change information in a panel. An Account can be created for every panel installed. Accounts can also include all modules connected to the panel and all the programming contained in each.

DLS2002 Creating Accounts To create a new Account, click the Create Account button. A Create Account window will appear.

DLS2002 Creating Accounts Enter the file name and the panel telephone number. A pull down menu is used to select the panel type. Panels are listed in alphabetical and numeric order. A pull down menu is also used to select the panel version. The most up-to-date version will automatically appear. The pull down menu can be used to select a different version. Once the correct panel type and version are selected click Next to continue.

DLS2002 Creating Accounts The next window is used to add modules to the Account. To add a module, click the Add/Change button.

DLS2002 Creating Accounts A list of the modules added, and the version of each, will be displayed. Continue adding modules by pressing the Add/Change button. Once all the modules are added press Next to continue.

DLS2002 Creating Accounts Highlight the folder to store the Account in. Once the correct folder is highlighted click Finish to save the Account.

Account Properties DLS2002 Account Properties [HOME] Account Properties Account Properties At any time, the information stored in an Account (phone number, modules, customer information, etc.) can be viewed or changed by going into Account Properties.

DLS2002 Account Properties To view the Account information for a customer, right click on the Account name. A menu will appear. Click Properties.

DLS2002 Account Properties A window will appear. Initially, the General tab is selected and the window displays the general information regarding the Account. Click the tabs located at the top of the window to change or review the appropriate information. For example, click Module Selection.

DLS2002 Account Properties The window will change to show the modules added to the Account. To make a change, click the Add/Change button. When finished changing or reviewing the information, click ‘OK to save and exit.

Editing Accounts DLS2002 Editing Accounts [HOME] Editing Accounts Editing Accounts Editing Accounts is the basic function of uploading and downloading. You need to edit an Account to make changes that will be sent to the panel (download) or review the information programmed in a panel (upload).

DLS2002 Editing Accounts To edit an Account, double click the Account name.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts The software will retrieve the Account and display the main panel programming tree. The modules added to the file will also be displayed. Note, the main panel file is highlighted by default which is why the main panel programming tree is initially displayed.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts Click on the [+] button beside a programming topic and the topic will be expanded to show all the programming sections. The [+] button will change to a [-] button. Click on the [-] button to minimize the programming topic. To program a section, click on the green link. For example, click on the green link for Section [401] – First Downloading Option Code.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts The software will display the selected programming section, most of the time exactly as it appears in the Programming Worksheets that come with the panel.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts Section [401] is a toggle option section. To change an option, click on the Enabled or Disabled box. The option will change. For example, click on the Disabled box beside option [1] to turn ON downloading in the panel. Note – when any programming is changed in a section, the red download arrow will be highlighted.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts Once all the options have been programmed as required, press the Back button to return to the programming tree.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts In the programming tree, the red download arrow will be highlighted beside any section where a change has been made. In addition, a red download arrow will appear beside the main panel icon in the Module Window indicating that at least one programming section has been tagged for downloading.

DLS2002 Editing Accounts Programming sections can also be tagged for uploading, downloading or printing by simply clicking on the respective arrow beside the program section. In this example, the first three sections have been tagged for downloading, the next three for uploading, and all six are tagged for printing.

DLS2002 Editing Modules To edit the programming for a module, click on the module name in the Module Window. For example, double click on the LCD5500(Z) LCD Keypad module icon.

DLS2002 Editing Modules The module icon will be highlighted and the main window will change to show the module programming. As before, click on the green link for a programming section. For example, zone labels.

DLS2002 Editing Modules The labels programmed will be displayed. To change a label, click on it. For example, click on the label for Zone 1 and change it by typing a new label.

DLS2002 Editing Modules The new label will be displayed and, as before, the red download arrow will be highlighted (because a change was made that has to be downloaded). As well, a red download arrow will appear beside the module icon, also indicating a change was made.

Error Checking DLS2002 Error Checking [HOME] Error Checking Error Checking The DLS2002 can search the Account for common errors. There are two types of errors: critical errors and warnings. Critical errors are displayed with a red ‘x’ and indicate programming that prevents the panel from operating properly (i.e. the communicator is enabled but a phone number is not programmed). Warnings are displayed with a yellow ‘!’ to indicate programming that may be incorrect or was missed (i.e. The Installer Code is still at default). When downloading a panel, the error check function is performed automatically (there is an option to disable automatic error checking). The user can continue or abort the download. Error checking is an excellent tool when both downloading new panels or checking existing installations. Common programming mistakes, or programming that was missed, can easily be avoided. Double clicking on an error takes the user to the most likely section where programming needs to be corrected.

DLS2002 Error Checking To have the DLS2002 scan the Account for error, click the Error Check button.

DLS2002 Error Checking Correct the errors found by double clicking on each. The DLS2002 will automatically jump to the most likely cause of the error. Once all errors have been corrected, click OK to close the Error Window.

Creating Templates DLS2002 Create Templates [HOME] Create Templates Creating Templates Templates can provide a short cut when creating new Accounts. Standard programming such as Installer Code, Phone Number, Communicator Format, Reporting Codes etc. can be changed in a Template. When later an Account is created, the information is already entered in the Account. NOTE: A Template must be created for each panel type and version.

DLS2002 Create Templates To create a Template, click the Create Account button. Enter an Account name, panel type and version. Click the check box to indicate the Account will be used as a Template.

DLS2002 Create Templates Modules can also be added to a Template. Click the Add/Change button if modules are to be added. When done, click the Finish button to save the Template.

DLS2002 Create Templates In the Account Manager screen, click on the Templates folder to view the Templates that have been created. To make changes to the template, edit it like a normal Account by double clicking it.

Creating Auto Detect Files DLS2002 [HOME] Creating Auto Detect Files Creating Auto Detect Files This is an extremely useful tool when attempting to upload or download an existing panel in the field, when the panel type, version and the modules connected may not be known. The new DLS2002 lets you create an ‘Auto Detect’ file. When the panel is called, the DLS2002 will automatically determine the panel type and version, thenpoll the panel to determine the modules connected and the version of each. It will then create the file automatically and attach modules found to the file. NOTE: The total polling time required depends on the panel type and the number of modules that can be connected. The maximum polling time is approximately 90 seconds.

Creating Auto Detect Files DLS2002 Creating Auto Detect Files To create an Auto Detect Account, click the Create Account button. Enter an Account name and phone number but leave the panel type and version as default (Auto Detect). Once the information is entered click Next to continue.

Creating Auto Detect Files DLS2002 Creating Auto Detect Files Two items must be programmed, the Downloading Access Code and the Product Family. To connect to the panel, either perform a Global Upload or click the link at the bottom of the screen.

Modem/PC-Link Configuration DLS2002 [HOME] Modem/PC-Link Configuration Modem/PC-Link Configuration Before uploading or downloading panels, the connection method must be selected and configured. This section describes how to select and configure the DLS2002 to use either a modem or PC-Link for uploading and downloading.

Modem/PC-Link Configuration DLS2002 Modem/PC-Link Configuration To select and configure either modem or PC-LINK, click the Tool’ menu and click‘Modem Configuration.

Modem/PC-Link Configuration DLS2002 Modem/PC-Link Configuration The following window will appear. This window shows the available methods of connecting to a panel (modem or PC-Link at default). Click the Outgoing tab.

Connecting to a Panel DLS2002 Connecting to a Panel [HOME] Connecting to a Panel Connecting to a Panel There are two different ways of connecting to a panel in order to perform uploading and downloading; either via a modem and telephone line or via PC-Link. The following describes both connection methods.

Connecting to a Panel - Modem DLS2002 Connecting to a Panel - Modem When using ‘Double Call’ to connect to a panel, click the Redial button after one ring is heard. The DLS2002 will hang up and call the panel again.

Connecting to the Panel – PC-Link DLS2002 Connecting to the Panel – PC-Link To connect to the panel, either select Connect from the File menu or attempt to upload or download any Programming Section. If the DLS2002 is not already connected to the panel, it will attempt to connect. A Connection Window will appear. The Communication Message Window will display a status message. When using PC-Link to connect to a panel, the function must be initiated at the panel keypad.

Uploading/Downloading DLS2002 [HOME] Uploading/Downloading Uploading/Downloading Before programming panels, it is important to understand the difference between uploading and downloading. When performing an upload, the programming information in the panel will be retrieved and stored/displayed in the customer file. When performing a download, the information programmed in the customer file will be sent to the panel. NOTE: If a blank file is downloaded to a panel by accident, the panel programming will be overwritten and lost. Always ensure the correct function is selected.

Upload/Download Tagged Sections DLS2002 Communicating Tagged Sections Communication Message Window Communication Status Window Upload/Download Tagged Sections Sections are tagged for uploading and downloading (because there are red and blue arrows present on the main panel icon in the Module Window). To upload and download the tagged sections, click the Upload/Download Tagged Sections button.

Communicating Tagged Sections DLS2002 Communicating Tagged Sections The Communication Status Window will display two bars. The green bar shows the transmission efficiency, the blue bar shows the amount of information transferred. As well, the total on line time and the estimated time remaining will be displayed. During an upload or download, the Communication Message Window will show the command currently being performed.

Communicating Tagged Sections DLS2002 Communicating Tagged Sections Hang Up Button When communication is complete, the Communication Status Window will show the total online time. The panel will remain online for 10 minutes (default) or until the Hang Up button is pressed. The Communication Message Window will display a message when communication is complete.

DLS2002 Global Download [HOME] To perform a Global Download (which sends all of the information in the file to the panel) click the Global Download button. If modules are added to the Account, a window will be displayed asking what should be downloaded – either the entire system (including all modules) or just the main panel. Click the correct button.

DLS2002 Global Download The DLS2002 will automatically perform an Error Check and if errors are detected, an Error Window will appear. Click No to abort the download and review the errors found.

In this example, the Entire System option will be selected.

DLS2002 Global Upload Notice the small ‘disk’ icon beside the main panel and module icons. This indicates that programming has been changed in the Account but has not yet been saved. To save the Account, either close the Account or click the Save button.

DLS2002 Global Upload A save window will appear for every item in the Module Window, starting with the first module (in this case, the LCD5500(Z) Keypad. Click either Save Changes or Discard.

DLS2002 Global Upload The window will change to show the next module. Notice that the ‘disk’ icon has been removed from the LCD5500(Z) icon because the changes have been saved or discarded. Continue to click either Save Changes or Discard for each module and the main panel.

Uploading/Downloading (Modules) DLS2002 [HOME] Uploading/Downloading (Modules) To upload or download a module, double click the module in the Module Window (i.e. LCD5500(Z) v3.1-3.2).

Auto Detect Modules DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules [HOME] Auto Detect Modules Auto Detect Modules A new DLS2002 feature that can be used to automatically find the modules (and the versions of the modules) connected to the panel. The DLS2002 will poll the panel and delete modules not found, add modules that are found and recreate modules with the wrong version. Note: When recreating modules with the correct version, module information in the file will be lost. However, the module can be uploaded so the information in the file is accurate and up-to-date.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules To have the DLS2002 automatically detect the modules connected (and the version of each) click the Tools menu and click the Auto Detect Modules option.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules A window will appear while the software detects the modules connected. The length of time required depends on the number of modules that can be connected to the panel. The total time should not exceed 90 seconds.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules After the software is done, a window will be displayed showing the results of the test. There are 4 possible results, as shown in this example: 1. The module added to the Account was found on the system and is the correct version. 2. The module added to the Account was not found on the system. 3. A module that was not added to the Account was found on the system. 4. The module added to the Account was found but is the wrong version.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules In this example: The first line shows that the LCD5500(Z) module added to the Account is the wrong version. The second line shows that a PC5100 module was detected even though it was not added to the Account. The third line shows that the PC5936 module added to the Account was not found on the system. And the fourth line shows that the PC5132 added to the Account was found on the system and it is the correct version.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules Click Proceed and the DLS2002 will automatically correct any errors. It will add modules that were found, delete modules that were not found, and change incorrect versions of modules.

DLS2002 Auto Detect Modules When complete, the Module Window will show the corrected information. NOTE: The modules should be uploaded to ensure the information in the Account is accurate and up-to-date. NOTE: When a module is converted from one version to another, the module information is not converted.

Event Buffer DLS2002 Event Buffer [HOME] Event Buffer Event Buffer All newer panels have an event buffer that stores all events which have occurred on the panel, along with the partition, time and date. The event buffer is an excellent troubleshooting tool used to determine the exact order of events occurring on a system.

DLS2002 Event Buffer To upload or view the event buffer, click the [+] symbol beside the Event Buffer heading to expand the Program Section, then click the green Event Buffer ink.

DLS2002 Event Buffer The window will change to show the Event Buffer screen. Note, if an event buffer was uploaded and saved previously, it will be displayed in the window.

DLS2002 Event Buffer To bring up the Event Buffer menu, either click the [+] symbol or the blue computer symbol in the Task Bar. Click Upload Entire Buffer to start the upload.

DLS2002 Event Buffer After the upload is complete, the event buffer will be displayed in the window. Events will include the Partition, time, date, and the event that occurred. Use the bar on the far right side of the window to scroll through all the events.

DLS2002 Event Buffer The events displayed can be filtered for easier viewing and printing. Before the event buffer can be filtered, it must first be saved. To bring up the Event Buffer menu, either click the [+] symbol or the blue computer symbol in the Task Bar. To save the event buffer, click the Save Event Buffer menu option.

DLS2002 Event Buffer A window will appear. Click Save to save the event buffer. If an event buffer had been uploaded previously, the newly uploaded event buffer can be appended to it.

DLS2002 Event Buffer Once saved, the event buffer can be filtered. To filter the events displayed, click on any of the column headings.

DLS2002 Event Buffer A window will appear. There are three pull down menus used to select the partition, time and date, and the specific events to be displayed.

DLS2002 Event Buffer After the filter options have been selected, click the Apply Filter button to filter the event buffer. For example, Alarms have been selected from the Event filter.

DLS2002 Event Buffer The window now displays only the alarm events. Only the filtered events will print.

System Installation Graphic DLS2002 [HOME] System Installation Graphic System Installation Graphic A graphical display similar to that of the DLS-2 software has been added. All modules connected will be displayed for a quick overview of the system.

System Installation Graphic DLS2002 System Installation Graphic To view the installation in a block diagram, click on the blue upload arrow beside the System Graphic Installation link, then click the Upload/Download Tagged Items button.

Miscellaneous DLS2002 Miscellaneous The following describes a few other new features of the DLS2002 software.

Upgrade Wizard DLS2002 Upgrade Wizard [HOME] Upgrade Wizard Upgrade Wizard The Upgrade Wizard can be used to upgrade an existing Account to a newer (or older) version – or even a new panel type. This can be useful when a panel is being changed in the field and the older version is no longer available. NOTE: Only the main panel programming can be converted, modules cannot. Not all programming can be converted because of feature differences between panels and versions. Always review the programming after upgrading a panel to ensure it is correct.

DLS2002 Upgrade Wizard Right click on the Account to be upgraded. From the menu, highlight Advanced and click Upgrade Wizard.

DLS2002 Upgrade Wizard A window will appear displaying the present Account information. Use the two pull down menus to select the panel type and version that the Account will be converted to. Once the correct panel type and version are selected click Next to continue.

DLS2002 Upgrade Wizard The window will display a percentage indicating how much of the information in the existing Account will be converted into the new Account. Click Next to continue.

DLS2002 Upgrade Wizard Review the information displayed. Check the appropriate box to review or connect to the new Account. To end click Finish.

Find Account Function DLS2002 Find Account Function [HOME] Find Account Function Find Account Function Depending on the Account names used, and the number of Account Folders that may exist, it can be difficult to find a particular Account. The Find Account function can be used to search and display a specific Account or a number of Accounts that match the specified search criteria.

DLS2002 Find Account Function Click the Find button and a window will appear. There are three tabs to select different search criteria. For example, click the Advanced tab.

DLS2002 Find Account Function The advanced option can be used to search for Accounts with a certain panel type and version. Click the All Panels of Type box.

DLS2002 Find Account Function Use the pull down menu to select the type of panel and specify the version (either all versions or specific versions). When finished, click the Find button to search for all matching Accounts.

Batch File Programming DLS2002 [HOME] Batch File Programming Batch File Programming Batch programming can be used to have the DLS2002 automatically call panels and execute a list of commands either one time only or on a scheduled basis. The program will execute all programming tagged for either uploading and downloading. A Batch File consisting of the tagged items can be saved so that common functions the batch commands only have to be set once.   Scheduled batch commands can be useful for uploading event buffers and panel status on a regular basis. One time only batch commands can be useful for making area code changes, and to call commercial accounts with busy phone lines after hours.

To begin, expand the Communication Programming section by clicking the [+] sign. Next, click the green link for Program Section [301] – [303] Communicator Telephone Numbers.
