The 7 Habits Crash Course PDCP 10 Ms. Chevrier

Habit #1 – Be Proactive Proactive – Means to take responsibility for your actions and being the driver of your life, not the passenger. Reactive – Means act upon and be controlled by the events and behaviors of others and not your own judgment.

Who’s in control of your life? Read pages 21-22

Proactive People Know what they stand for and have a strong set of values.  Listen to their “better selves”  Realize they have choices and take responsibility for those choices.  Bounce back when something bad happens in their lives.  Always look at all options.  Focus on things they can do something about, and don’t worry about the other things.

Reactive People Allow other people or things to control them Allow a rude comment by a friend ruin their whole day Allow other’s behaviors to change their mood at the “push of a button” Respond to situations without taking time to consider a rational solution that aligns with their principles.

On the next slide you will read several statements. Proactive Reactive On the next slide you will read several statements. Choose 4 statements. 2 that you believe would fit in the proactive category and 2 you believe would fit in the reactive category. Please write them in

Which of the following quotes are Proactive? Reactive? I can’t get good grades as long as he’s my teacher. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. You know what, you’re right. Who does he think he is anyway?! Can we talk about this first? That’s unfair! My girlfriend is making my life miserable! I have to choose what’s best for me. If I had her looks, I’d be popular too. Just leave me alone, what would you know anyway.
