Game Description Activities: Monday-Thursday Final Presentation: Friday 20 teams of 10 students each Each team participates in the activities to earn golden coins Golden coins are used by the teams to buy “city items” For every item bought, the team’s flag is placed on that item Zierikzee map with 3D miniatures (items) placed in welcome hall “Happy trade hour” at the end of every day; items can be bought and sold TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 1: Language & Social Norms Aim: Familiarize students with common Dutch words Description: 1.Photos are laid on the ground 2.When the Dutch word is called, one student of each team must jump on the correlating picture Points: 20 coins for first, 10 coins for second Photo-bomb TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Aim: Develop understanding of the diversity of social norms from students of all backgrounds Description: 1.Teams are allocated a social norm from a certain culture 2.In the format of Charades, half the team are required to act out the social norm – the other half have to guess the social norm and the associated country Rules: Knock-out format Normal Charade rules (i.e. no speaking) Points 10 coins per win World Charades TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3 Day 1: Language & Social Norms

Day 2: Navigation & Weather Aim: Explore the city and learn to navigate around Zierikzee Description: 1.Teams are given a list of 10 items/locations throughout the city 2.They are required to navigate between them and perform an activity or find an item at each i.e. take a photo, take a napkin from a certain food store etc. etc. Rules: Transport must be on foot Points: 5 coins awarded per scavenger item correctly completed Scavenger Hunt TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Aim: To creatively come to acceptance with the wet weather of the Netherlands Description: Teams are required to design and construct a innovate device that acts as a force-field against the weather for the entire team i.e. Rain shield, wind barrier etc. Rules: Materials are provided but additional material may be acquired Points: Teams are awarded a max 10 coins according to 3 criteria: Water resistance, Wind resistance & Originality Weather Shield Contest Day 2: Navigation & Weather TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 3: Food & Drinks Aim: To help students adapt to the Dutch supermarket system and food names Description: Teams are allocated a country and are required to purchase the ingredients for traditional dishes from that country according to a budget Rules: Team are required to write a shopping list at the beginning of the day Budget of 20 euro per team Points: 20 coins for teams that find all ingredients on their list Supermarket Rally TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 3: Food & Drinks Aim: Demonstrate the differences in cuisines from throughout the world Help overcome homesickness Description: Teams work together to prepare a national cuisine using items purchased in Supermarket Rally Team get to taste food from all around the world Rules: Only ingredients purchased from your shopping list can be used Teams have 4 hours to prepare Points: Teams vote for their favorite dish, excluding their own Coins are allocated according to the number of votes received Masterchef Zierikzee TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 4: Arts & Culture Aim: Teach students about the history of Zierikzee Description: The trivia master asks a trivia question relating to Zierikzee Team write their response on a whiteboard and all present their answers at the same time Rules One answer per team Points 5 coins per correct answer Tricky Trivia TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 4: Arts & Culture Aim: To develop team work skills, creativity and ignite the “Inner engineering minds” whilst educating them on the famous monuments of Zierikzee Description: Teams are supplied with equal amounts of spaghetti and marshmallows and are required to build a replica of the Sint- Lievensmonsertoren “Monster” Tower Rules: No additional materials can be used Points Tallest tower = 50 coins Best replica = 50 coins Monster Tower TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3

Day 4: Arts & Culture Aim: Help students overcome the fear of performing in front of an audience Display the traditional dances of different countries Description: Team are allocated a country and are required to prepare a traditional/common dance Rules: Teams have 4 hours to prepare their dance Points Team are judged on 3 criteria: “Fun-factor”, Technique & Relevance to allocated country Maximum 10 coins per criteria So You Think You Can Dance! Final Day Description: Explain why the items bought or traded during the week Rules Each team will be given 15 minutes for their presentation Jury will decide the best team Presentation TU DELFT - Team ZIERIKZEE 3
