pre-ap parent meeting BURNET MIDDLE SCHOOL 2015-2016

What is Pre-AP? AP stands for Advanced Placement and all AP courses are reviewed by the College Board for course curriculum and strategies. Pre-AP courses are the initial classes that lead to, and prepare students for AP courses. In High School these course receive additional weight for GPA.

What to expect in Pre-AP The courses provide more advanced, or accelerated curriculum. The course work is more challenging, with a higher level of rigor and expectation. The classes usually require additional time outside of class, including summer assignments. They provide the best way to prepare for AP, Dual Credit and other advanced classes in high school.

How to decide if Pre-AP courses are right for me? Do you complete homework when it is assigned? Are you independently driven to succeed? Do you enjoy working collaboratively? Are you willing to work hard and challenge yourself? How do you accept a poor grade?

Pre-AP and the STAAR Test There are not corresponding STAAR tests for all Pre- AP subjects. Only some have a STAAR test. Students must pass the corresponding STAAR Test for any Pre-AP course that has one to remain in Pre-AP. To be in Pre-AP 6th grade courses, a student must have passed the corresponding 5th grade STAAR test (exception is Social Studies).
