MINFORD ( MADISON TOWNSHIP ) TOWN HALL MEETING APRIL 27, 2006

SCIOTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ~Presents~ Statistical Information pertaining to Madison Township.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office serves approximately 80,000 residents who reside within Scioto County and includes the residents of the City of Portsmouth 20,000). Due to the fact that the City of Portsmouth has its own Police Department, most of our duties for service is primarily related to providing service to the 60,000 residents who live outside the City Limits and reside in the various sixteen (16) townships.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has a total of twelve deputies (employees) assigned to patrolling the townships. In addition, thanks to a levy passed by the residents residing in Porter, Washington, Clay, Green, Rush and Nile townships, we have an additional eleven (11) deputies assigned exclusively to these particular townships. Without these levies the Sheriff’s Office would be providing service with strictly twelve deputies assigned to patrolling over 600 square miles

This office handles calls for service from all residents residing in all sixteen (16) townships. This includes taking reports and conducting investigations This includes serving court papers such as subpoenas, divorce papers, and other various legal documents and/or court notifications.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is also responsible for operating the county jail. Information concerning the jail is based on information prior to April 1, We have twelve (12) deputies who work in the jail. With new jail we have been required by the state to hire an additional sixteen (16) correctional officers to assist in operating the jail bring the total of employees to twenty-eight (28) in the jail. This was state mandated since we accepting 6 ½ million dollars from them to build the facility.

In addition to hiring the additional sixteen (16) correctional officers to assist in operating the jail we were also required to hire an additional two (2) deputies whose duties are to transport inmates to and from Common Pleas Court located in the Scioto County Courthouse.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office currently has a total of three (3) detectives assigned to following up all criminal case ranging from mailboxes being damaged to Murder cases. We also have a total of two (2) detectives assigned exclusively to investigating illegal drug activity.
