“Maricopa County Superior Court” is the 4th largest trial court jurisdiction in the country. 4.2 million residents 9,224 square miles (ranked 21st in U.S. land area)

Maricopa County Superior Court has: 98 Judges + 62 Commissioners 160 Judicial Officers

Maricopa County Superior Court has: 9 Separate Court Locations 4 downtown 2 separate juvenile facilities 3 regional courthouses

7 Superior Court Judicial Officers
Judges on the Maricopa County Superior Court are merit selected and stand for retention every 4 years. Every two years judges participate in a Judicial Performance Review procedure where their performance is evaluated by Staff Jurors Litigants Witnesses Attorneys A judge’s JPR results are published in the voters pamphlet if the judge is on the ballot

8 Superior Court Judicial Officers
Commissioners are hired by the Judicial Branch PJ and serve at the PJ’s pleasure.

9 Judicial Rotation Judges and commissioners rotate amongst the court’s various departments (civil/tax, criminal, family, juvenile, probate/mental health) Rotations can involve a change in court facility as well as a change in assignment Judges typically rotate every 3- 5 years.
