Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office was incorporated in 1852. There have been 27 different Sheriffs since 1852. Only 3 other Sheriffs in the past 70 years (Ryan, Omodt, McGowan).

1.3 million residents 556.2 square miles 104 named lakes and 3 rivers 280 miles of lakes and waterways 45 municipalities (+1 unorganized territory) 36 local police departments & 9 Federal law enforcement partners

7 State Statute Chapter 387 - SHERIFF 387.03 Powers & Duties:
“The sheriff shall keep and preserve the peace of the county...” The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in the county.

Stakeholder operated 1 of 3 accredited DNA crime labs in MN Internationally accredited Property crime evidence collected and processed 8 lab cases in 2017 & 3 in 2018 YTD 10 crime lab scene hours in 2017

2013: 119 (325 statewide) 2014: 108 (335 statewide) 2015: 110 (344 statewide) 2016: 153 (402 statewide) 2017: 175 (statewide #s not yet available) 2018: 59 (through May)

Our deputies attended neighborhood parties throughout the county to educate residents about this epidemic and provide them with nearly 15,000 medicine disposal bags.

15 21st Century Policing Community Engagement is an agency-wide effort and top priority All levels of agency personnel are engaging with residents and community leaders Training for all agency personnel Community Advisory Board and Community Engagement Team Attend community events, educate residents, recruit diverse candidates, policy development Educational workshops, for example Women for Peace 1 of 15 demonstration sites to be used as a nationwide model
