Operation of Avaya IP 9600/5600 Phones

Connection of IP 96xx/4600/5600 Phones The recommended installation method for H.323 IP phones uses a DHCP server DHCP will provide Gatekeeper, TFTP server address, etc. 4600 and 5600 Series H.323 IP phones use DHCP option 176 1600 and 9600 Series H.323 IP Phones use DHCP option 242 The network configuration of a 4600 series IP telephone can carried out using the device itself or using a DHCP server. Gatekeeper, TFTP server address, etc. can also entered manually at the IP phone Once powered, an IP phone will initially search for a script file "46xxupgrade.scr" on a TFTP server. This script file contains data on the software version that is responsible for the IP phone. Another required file is the 46xxsettings.txt file, which can contain information on the standard programming of the IP phone. The PC running the Manager can act as TFTP server (note the directory path of the bin-files).

Start up IP 9600/5600 Series Phone DHCP Request DHCP Response IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway etc. -SSON 176 with Gatekeeper IP Addr. Gatekeeper Port (1719) TFTP Server IP Addr. TFTP Server Directory etc. DHCP LAN 46xxupgrade.scr 46xxsettings.txt Manager (TFTP server) Gatekeeper For IP Office 4.2 or later running on an IP500 IP Office system, the full capacity of up to 272 extensions is supported using the IP Office for DHCP.

DHCP Settings 4600 and 5600 Series H.323 IP phones use DHCP option 176 1600 and 9600 Series H.323 IP phones use DHCP option 242

DHCP option 176 In the string value field, enter the following: MCIPADD=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,MCPORT=1719,TFTPSRVR=yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy, TFTPDIR=z, VLANTEST=0 where: •MCIPADD= is the H.323 Gatekeeper (Callserver) address. Normally, this is the IP Office Unit's LAN1 address. •MCPORT= is the RAS port address for initiating phone registration. •TFTPSRVR= is the TFTP Server IP Address. Normally, this is the IP address of the PC running Manager. •TFTPDIR= is the TFTP Server directory where the IP phone files are located. This entry is not required if those files are in the TFTP server's default directory. •VLANTEST= is the number of minutes phones should attempt to register on a specific VLAN before defaulting back to VLAN 0. This field is optional. A setting of 0 disables the fallback to registering on VLAN 0. Note: This option must be configured on customer provided DHCP server. When using IP Office as DHCP server, this option will be set automatically by IP Office

DHCP option 242 In the string value field, enter the following: MCIPADD=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy, HTTPDIR=z, VLANTEST=0 where: •MCIPADD= is the H323 Gatekeeper (Callserver) address. Normally, this is the IP Office Unit's LAN1 address. •MCPORT= is the RAS port address for initiating phone registration. •HTTPSRVR= is the HTTP Server IP Address. Normally, this is the IP address of the PC running Manager. •HTTPDIR= is the HTTP Server directory where the IP phone files are located. This entry is not required if those files are in the HTTP server's default directory.

9600 Series IP Telephones (IP500, IP500v2 only) Only the H.323 versions of these telephones will be supported, the SIP versions of the 9600 series telephones will not be supported on IP Office. Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephones have a clear and elegant interface with high resolution graphical displays making it easier to read contextual menus, prompts and instructions.

9600 Series IP Telephones IP Office Release 6.0 will support the following 9600 series telephones: 9620L (QVGA quality gray-scale pixel based backlit display) 9620C (¼ VGA color display) 9630G (QVGA quality gray-scale pixel based backlit display) Gigabit interface 9640 (VGA color display) 9650 (QVGA quality gray-scale pixel based backlit display) 9650C (¼ VGA color display ) SBM24 (only supported with the 9630G/9640/9650/9650C)* * Note: The 9630G/9640/9650/9650C telephones will support the connection of up to 3 SBM24 modules. The Following needs to be added for VPN functionality: ## ## Disabled if NVVPNMODE = "0"(default), ## Enabled if NVVPNMODE = "1" ## Set VPN Mode On ## set NVVPNMODE 0 ## VPNPROC: Whether VPNCODE accesses Special VPN Procedure ## at all (0=No), in view-only mode (=1), ## or in view/modify mode (=2) SET VPNPROC 2 #############################################################

9600 Screen Saver If you are going to add a custom Screen Saver, you will need to change this section of the file: ################ AVAYA SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS ##################### ## Idle time before the Avaya Screen Saver is activated (minutes). ## Number of minutes without phone activity to wait ## before the screen saver is activated. A value of 0 means ## the screen saver is never activated. The default is 240 minutes. ## This parameter does not apply to 16cc SIP phones. ## ## Note: ## This setting activates the Avaya Screen Saver which is ## different than the "idle screen" accessed by WMLIDLEURI. ## While it is possible to use WMLIDLEURI as an "idle ## screen", it is recommended that the SCREENSAVERON ## timer and the Avaya Screen Saver display be used for ## screen saver purposes. SET SCREENSAVERON 5 SET SCREENSAVER logo.jpg ## // Upload your logo.jpg with a maximum size of 160 x 320 pixels

On-hook Dialing (1400/1600/9600 only) IP Office Release 6.0 will support on-hook dialing, also referred to as “en-bloc- dialing” on the 1400, 1600 and 9600 series telephones. This will be supported in Essential Edition - PARTNER Version and IP Office mode. (PARTNER supports 1400 only) If set up, when dialing a number without lifting the handset, the phone does not automatically go off-hook (in speakerphone mode) but just displays the dialed digits in the display.
