Proto-Cubist, Neo-Impressionism, graduating tones, and analogous colors 5) Give four characteristics that define Seurat’s style of artwork in addition to dot placement? Pointillism, iridescent, and contrast colors, and split complimentary colors 6) Give four characteristics that define Gauguin’s style of artwork in addition to color? Symbolism, Synthetism, brilliant colors, and primary colors

 How to use line in art  Lines defining motion  Impasto – process of applying thick layers of paint for texture  Gesso – a way to help add texture in painting  Vibrant colors Complimentary Colors – blue/orange

 How to use geometric shapes  Neo-Impressionism – science based interpretation of line and color  Proto-Cubist – a style moving towards Cubism  Modeling paste – mix with acrylics for depth and texture  Similar colors Analogous Colors – green/blue- green/blue/blue-violet

 Color value – placing value of shading, form, and composition through color  Pointillism – using dot placement for composition  Iridescent – creating a metallic look when mixing with acrylic paints  Contrast in colors Split Complimentary Colors blue/yellow-orange/red-orange

 Color in emotion – using color for expression rather than realism  Symbolism – symbols used for intense personal, private, obscure, and ambiguous references  Synthetism – focusing on two-dimensional flat patterns specific to the major idea or feeling of the subject  Gloss Medium – adding transparency to paint applications  Primary colors – red, yellow, blue
