4. Complementary – colors opposite each other on the color wheel. When placed next to each other, makes the other stand out. (Red-Green) Analogous – colors next to each other on the color wheel; are harmonious; work well together.

5. Hot/warm colors – red, orange, yellow. Tend to stand out; evokes a certain feeling or emotion. Cool Colors – greens, blues, violets. Calming, serene feel.

6. Hue – identifies a color, tells you what it is. Intensity – the brightness or dullness of a color. Value – the range of darks and lights. Tints – lighter values of a color. Shades – darker values of color. Use complementary color to create a darker value. Use of black or brown dulls color. Monochromatic – tints and shades of one color.

7. Look at the following artworks and write down how artist used color in each art work. Vincent Van Gogh used complementary colors to make the stars stand out. They contrast the blues used throughout the rest of the painting.

12. Texture can be created by the use of line, how you make your pencil marks.

13. Texture can be made using pen and ink. Again how you make your marks.

14. Cross hatching – parallel lines, crossed with parallel lines. The closer the lines are together, the darker the value the lines create.

15. Stippling – making dots with either pencil or pen. The closer the dots are placed next to each other, the darker the value is.
