Lost and Found by Jadyn Garrett

There once lived a seal named Snowball, who sometimes didn’t listen to her parents. One afternoon, her mother said that kelp would make a good dinner. Snowball agreed and offered to gather some. Her mother warned her not to go too far from home, but Snowball wanted to find the tastiest kelp she could.

In a small forest of kelp, Snowball saw a pair of little green eyes. “Hello?” she asked, trembling. “Hello,” another voice said back. Now Snowball was really scared. “Who and what are you?” she asked the voice. Out of the kelp swam a dolphin. “I am Katy.” “I thought you were a shark,” sighed Snowball.

Katy asked Snowball to follow her so she could introduce her dolphin family: Mom, Dad, Grandma, Papaw and Chase, her little brother. Snowball told Katy’s family that she could not find her way back home. “That’s okay,” they told her. “You have us now.” Snowball didn’t feel much better. Katy’s family decided to have a party for their new friend, Snowball. Katy and Snowball decided to find party supplies.

Not too far into their search for supplies, Katy and Snowball saw a fin above a large rock. Katy figured it was another dolphin and decided to see for herself. Snowball followed her. Suddenly they realized it was a shark fin! They turned and swam as fast as they could but the shark swam just as fast. Katy realized they couldn’t outrun it and made a brave choice.

Katy turned around and swam toward the shark to distract it from Snowball. When Snowball got back to Katy’s family, she realized her new friend wasn’t beside her. When she told the dolphins about the shark, they asked Snowball to help them find Katy. When they found her, Katy was fine. She explained that the shark was a bully hoping to scare other sea creatures. He swam the opposite way when Katy began swimming toward him.

Snowball just then realized what Katy had done for her. “You could have gotten hurt trying to help me,” Snowball said. “I would protect anyone in my family.” “Even though I’m not a dolphin?” asked a surprised Snowball. “You don’t have to be related to someone to care about them like family,” reminded Katy. Snowball was starting to feel better since getting lost earlier that day. Maybe her new family can help her find her old one, she thought.

The End.
