Jimmy’s Friend, the Cancer Cell By Shelby Ford & Kathryn Haskins Team 12 & Team 1

Hi, I’m Jimmy and this is my best friend, Mel.

Mel is what mom calls, “a cancer cell” but I think he’s my friend because he always want to play with me. Sometimes we get along, but a lot of times we don’t.

We’re always together but sometimes I want him to go away when he’s bothering me but he never leaves.

I’m his only friend, but my parents and my doctors don’t like him very much and they try to make me get rid of him. My mom told me that my dad used to have a friend like Mel, but they’re not friends anymore.

My dad lost his old friend because he made a new friend, named Tim, that was much nicer to him. My parents want me to have a better friend, so they introduced me to Tim.

The doctors assumed that since Tim and my dad got along so well, that him and I would be friends too! But Mel didn’t like Tim and scared him away.

Me and Mel were getting along again but my doctors still wanted to introduce me to a another new friend.

This time, they introduced me to a new friend that my dad had never met. His name is Tommy and he was really nice to me!

Mel got sick of Tommy being around and decided to leave. Team Chemo

I didn’t mind Mel leaving because I liked Tommy and so did my family and my doctors! Team Chemo Unlike me and Mel, me and Tommy always get along and he never makes me sad.

Through my fight with Mel, I learned that you’re not going to like everyone that your parents like. Everyone is different and reacts to each other in different ways.
