Assessment, Screening and Progress Monitoring made Easy! a tool for every tier Darrell L. Lee, easyCBM Senior Account Manager

What is easyCBM? CBM: Curriculum-Based Measurement Allows schools to benchmark test and progress monitor “at-risk” students, specifically in math and reading Addresses all tiers of RTI (Response to Intervention) For grades K–8 Includes a full range of assessment and reporting options

History Developed by Behavioral Research & Teaching (BRT) at University of Oregon, College of Education Development started in January 2006 Federal grant for a Model Demonstration Project on Progress Monitoring in Early Literacy in a Response to Intervention Framework

Partnership for Progress Riverside began partnership with the BRT/University of Oregon in University of Oregon continues research and development of the easyCBM system. Riverside provides server space and unparalleled technical and customer support. Riverside is the sole distributor of the easyCBM district version.

Response to Intervention Tier 1 - easyCBM Universal screening or benchmarking – fall, winter, and spring Class/Building/System Snapshot Identify “at-risk” for Tier 2 Focus on core curriculum Differentiated Instruction

Response to Intervention Tier 2 - easyCBM Progress monitoring Rate of growth data Non-responders considered for Tier 3 Targeted Groups and intervention

Response to Intervention Tier 3 - easyCBM Progress monitoring essential Evaluate the impact of interventions Enhance the rate of student learning Intensive individualized intervention Diagnostic – processing assessment Referral for Special Education

easyCBM Versions District Version Benchmark assessments Full access to progress monitoring assessments Reading & Math – Grades K-8 System-level use Team access Computer Administration Multi-Level Reporting $3 per student per year – unlimited access easyCBM lite Limited Progress monitoring assessments Reading & Math – Grades K-8 Individual teacher use Manual entry of student data Individual Reporting Trial

Research & Development Universal design – access for as many students as possible –Adjustable font size –Audio for math –Hover features –Limited language requirements in math Built to motivate students through the assessments! Measure progress for the FULL year!

Assessments: Alignment Mathematics – currently based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Curriculum Focal Point Standards in Mathematics Reading – based on the 'Big Five' constructs of reading reported in the 2000 National Reading Panel report Alignment to Common Core Standards in development

Assessments: Reading Early Literacy –Phoneme Segmenting, Letter Names, Letter Sounds Fluency –Word Reading Fluency, Passage Reading Fluency Comprehension Vocabulary (Benchmark)

Mathematics Based on NCTM Focal Point Standards −3 per grade −Benchmark assesses all three −Progress monitoring assesses all three or focuses on individual domain Numbers and Operations, Geometry, Measurement, Algebra, Ratios, Data Analysis Alignment with Common Core Standards to be studied this year

easyCBM Implementation So, what is the implementation process? Riverside receives and processes easyCBM orders. Kick-off meetings are scheduled with school district. Purpose: 1.) To introduce key Riverside and district staff members 2.) To determine the specific needs of the district-i.e. training requirements, technical considerations, etc. 3.) To familiarize the district with the easyCBM Implementation Process

easyCBM Implementation easyCBM Training DI (Data Integration) Training: 1.) One-hour web session for IT staff 2.) Shows customers how to load their own data files 3.) URL and admin access provided to district easyCBM Basic Training: 1.) Provides in-depth overview of the easyCBM site 2.)Two-hour web training 3.)Riverside trainer Professional Development: 1.)One-day, onsite training 2.) Focuses on district’s Response To Intervention programs 3.) Riverside Measurement Consultant

URL and Admin Set-up Riverside’s Technical Support sets up district’s easyCBM website: Suggested format: – Identifier].[State Abbr].easycbm.com –e.g. IT staff suggested easyCBM administrator District is notified once website is active. District can begin training teachers. District can begin benchmark testing and progress monitoring students. easyCBM Implementation

Data File Requirements Districts must have the ability to load data into easyCBM. easyCBM uses the Comma-Separated Values (.csv) file format. User data can be extracted from most district’s Human Resources and Student Information Systems. Districts need to import 3 data files into easyCBM: 1.) Users (Teachers) 2.) Students 3.) Teacher-Student associations

easyCBM Implementation It’s “easy” to Load Your Own Data! Log into your easyCBM account and click on the Admin tab. Find your user, student and teacher-student association.csv files. Load each file in the exact order specified. NOTE: Each file upload must be complete and accurate! User data is available instantly. Admin< System settings: 1.) Set benchmark windows 2.) Set student passwords for online testing District administrators only have the ability to load student data and set benchmark testing windows.

easyCBM Data Integration It’s “easy” to Load Your Own Data! Let me show you just how “easy”…

easyCBM Implementation You’ve Got The Power! Online Test Administration Settings: Admin< System settings: 1.) Set benchmark windows 2.) Set student passwords for online testing Establish times for online testing District administrators only have the ability to load student data and set benchmark testing windows.
