Vision- To look beyond the needs of the individual or entity, and leverage GIS for the benefit of all. Mission - The Kenai Peninsula Borough GIS User Group was established with the goal of bringing together local GIS Users and professionals to exchange information, technical expertise, and data. This group will also provide a common link to the larger Alaska Arc User Group.

Safety to life and property e.g., A burning house in Soldotna was not found until the roof blew off Cause: insufficient digital data to locate the structure. e.g., Suicide in Homer left a 13 year old girl on the phone with 911 for an extended period of time Cause: inconsistent data and overlapping street names in Homer. e.g., Alaska Division of Forestry was unable to produce a map for the caribou hills fire for several hours Cause: multiple nonstandard transportation datasets. Currently, KPB is the primary data source for all agencies. Each departmental GIS has their own workflows and daily tasks and smaller agencies may not be able to support a GIS staff. Individually, it is difficult to move to enterprise system - time, budget, resources. dependent on tax $

FGDC CAP Program Grants 2009 NSDI CAP Category 7: Demonstration of Geospatial Data Partnerships across Local, State and Federal Government A primary goal of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) is to reduce redundancy and make available current and accurate geospatial data by leveraging data holdings across levels of government. Through activities of the National Geospatial Program (NGP), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is working with Federal, State, Tribal, and local government agencies and the private sector to integrate transportation, structures, and boundaries geospatial data into a nationally consistent data model. Category 7 of the CAP seeks to document, share and promulgate best practices for integrating data across levels of government to serve as models that can be applied in other geographic areas.
