Inauguration Formal induction into office. The presidential inauguration of Barack Obama will be on January 20, 2009

Oath of Office Promise to uphold the requirements of the office “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The oath of office is mandatory for a President upon the beginning a term of office. The wording is prescribed by the Constitution.

Inauguration Ball A celebration for the inauguration of the new president with a large party or dance The Obamas will be attending several inaugural balls in Washington, DC the night of the inauguration.

Chief Justice the presiding judge of the U.S. Supreme Court. John G. Roberts, Jr., the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, will administer the oath of office to Barack Obama.

Swearing In an official ceremony where a person takes an oath of office, allegiance, etc. When swearing an oath, the new president promised that he would do his best in his job.
