Our mission is to work with the public sector to reduce carbon emissions through investment in energy efficiency and renewable technologies.

Salix Finance One company two funding streams Salix Recycling Fund Salix Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme

Characteristics of the funding CharacteristicLoan FundRecycling Fund Interest FreeYes Project Compliancy Criteria Technical payback of less than 5 years Lifetime cost of CO2 less than £100/tonne Project must be additional Technical payback of less than 5 years Lifetime cost of CO2 less than £100/tonne Project must be additional Funding for Projects100% FundedMatched Funded 50% PSO / 50% SALIX RepaymentThe repayments will commence March 2011 and will be in 8 x 6 monthly equal instalments No repayment as long as the recycling condition of minimum 60% reinvestment annually into projects is achieved

Salix Finance – what do we do? Salix Recycling Fund

Provide a long term interest free recycling fund for investment in energy saving projects Salix funding is matched by client as a % of their energy bill Ring fenced fund is created within the organisation Initial funding is spent over two years Each individual project repays its cost back to the fund from the savings

Project Example – Car Park Lighting by Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk (BCKLWN) BEFORE: 274x70W + 10x58W +48 x18W = 20.6kW Operate for 18 Hours a day = 372kWh/day 135,500kWh/year £13,550/yr running costs AFTER: Installation of ‘Save it Easy’ e-Ballast conversion units, and replacement of T8 bulbs with T5 bulbs. Load reduced by 32% down to 14.0kW £3,112 energy saving / year projected Technical payback 2.61 years 22.5 tCO2 saved / year (projected) 42,000kWh saved annually (projected). Project completion – Oct 2008

Project knowledge – Car Park Lighting by BCKLWN Client – BCKLWN Client contact - Samuel Illsley Tel – – High Frequency ballasts 20,000hr lamp life – twice as long as existing bulbs 2yr Lamp and adapter replacement warranty Year Projection = 36,000kWh will be saved £ Saved/ Year = £3,600 CO 2 Saved = 19.3 tonnes Actual Savings Realised: 2007 kWh 2008 kWh Saving kWh Oct Nov Dec Year £Saved £ CO 2 Saved 4.22 Company: Bonnyline Contact: Warwick Grant Tel:

Project Compliancy Tool

Matched Funding needs to be secured, this can be spread over 3 budget years 4 ready to go compliant projects of different technologies Sign off from executive and or politicians NB !! - A Salix Application can be embedded into your CMP with the identified projects from your SIP forming the basis of the application Salix Recycling Fund - Applications

Operating a Salix Recycling Fund Makes sense from a financial, energy saving and carbon reduction perspective It simultaneously lowers your energy bill and carbon footprint while delivering technology and efficiency upgrades to your whole estate Provides a focus for education and cultural change especially among employees in maintenance, building services and procurement Opportunity to recycle the fund for future projects Salix Recycling Fund

Key characteristics of a successful fund Good people to run the fund – generally the energy manager Good relations with finance, sustainability, procurement and facilities management Ability to market the fund internally Processes and systems in place to identify projects A strong stream of compliant projects

All public sector organisations in England are eligible to apply. The scheme will accept applications during 2009 until all the funding has been allocated. Loans will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Salix Energy Efficiency Loans

First call closed 17 July allocated 20% Next call now open until 9 October 2009 The minimum amount available is £5000 per application with no upper limit providing all projects can be completed within 9 months of agreed application.

Repayments should be covered from the energy savings achieved by the projects Organisations can keep all the savings generated once the loan is repaid. Loans will be available for around 80 different energy efficiency technologies Outline details

Applicants will need To complete the Project Compliance Tool and submit The application form should be completed on line and then printed and signed and the hard copy sent to: Salix 25 Southampton Buildings London WC2A 1AL help line available Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application within 14 days by receipt of a commitment letter agreeing the loan funding. Application process

On completion of projects a completion certificate must be completed and signed and sent to Salix Salix will then issue a loan agreement and direct debit mandate for the authorised officer to sign and return to Salix On receipt of completed documentation the loan funding will be paid by BACS. Possibility of stage payments for large single projects Loans process

For both the fund and the loan schemes there is limited finance Opportunity for those with ready to go projects Others who need to carry out more work there will be another call If cannot make deadlines for the loan then consider the fund. Salix
