Falling in love with your own idea

Goldsmith Productivity Principle (GPP) 80% systems and structure 20% the people Leadership team 80% of an organisation’s ability to compete is driven by its systems and structure and only 20% by its people.

The buying team was unable to service most of the institutional orders. Reason: The brand sales representative was inefficient Actual Reason: Systems and structure failed Ideal Solution: Warehouse alerting the manufacturing unit as soon as stock goes below a certain level.

Redefining Creating the challenge statement: I am looking for a job Scrub Criteria Is the CS one issue? Yes Is the CS in present tense? Yes Is the CS a problem? No Are the CS facts verifiable? Are the CS assumptions valid picture? Is the CS essential to your overall goal?

Rewrite the challenge statement: An apparel retail firm ready to sponsor my H1 visa is hard to find. Scrub Criteria Is the CS one issue? Yes Is the CS in present tense? Yes Is the CS a problem? Yes Are the CS facts verifiable? Yes Are the CS assumptions valid picture? Yes Is the CS essential to your overall goal? Yes

Create a should statement. Wordsmith the Positive-Opposite-Ultimate End. An apparel retail firm should be ready to sponsor my H1 visa. WWIT statement What would it take on my part for an apparel retail firm to sponsor my h1 visa.

Scanning for solutions Build a strong resume Search for an internship Start networking Build up Linkedin profile Find information about companies who have sponsored H1 visa Contact recruiters Find information about companies who have sponsored H1 visa ….. AHA!!

Critical Path Method No.ActivityImmediate predecessorTime (days) AGather and analyse information-5 BCalculate the buy numbers on a spreadsheet -3 CGet approvals on the buy numbersB2 DReview the range-2 EShortlist the optionsA,D3 FFinalise the styles to be boughtC,E4 GPrepare the final buy planC,F1 HSend the buy order to the vendorG1 21

Critical Path- 14 days Review the range Get approvals on the buy numbers Gather and analyse Information Calculate the buy numbers on a spreadsheet Send the buy order to the vendor Shortlist the options Prepare the final buy plan Finalise the styles to be bought 4

Can CPM be improved The information gathering could be reduced by 3 days if the data files are better maintained and data reports formatted differently. Finalising the styles could take 2 days instead of actual 4 if shortlisting more detail oriented. Calculation of buy numbers could be reduced by 1 day if the IT team is informed in advance about the nature and structure of required data and asked to mine it. This would allow CPM to reduce to 9 days instead of 14.
