What do you enjoy doing? Do you enjoy running very fast? Do you enjoy swimming on a hot day? Do you enjoy cycling down hill? Do you enjoy climbing trees? Do you enjoy winning at football? Perhaps you enjoy dancing to loud music?

Try and imagine how much you would miss being able to do these things. How do you think you would feel?

It is not so easy for some children to enjoy the pleasures of movement and sport.

Riding for the Disabled (RDA) gives that pleasure and freedom to disabled children all over the country.

They rely on the help of 18,000 volunteers to make this possible. There are 500 volunteer groups in the country. Riding for the Disabled is a charity which is paid for by money raised by hundreds of kind people.

Perry is a local Riding for the Disabled group based near Shrewsbury. Perry RDA have a problem!

Perry RDA have an outdoor arena When it rains there is no riding Every year up to 60% of lessons are cancelled

The Perry group wants to build an indoor arena so the children can ride and carriage drive even when it rains. It will be called the Cavalier Centre. Indoor and outdoor arenas, a carriage driving track, and Mechanical horse and special mounting equipment

Why do you think these new riding facilities, especially the indoor arena, are so important? So the children can still ride in bad weather. So they won’t be disappointed.

What is the K12 challenge? The idea is that 100 groups of kids will each raise £1000. They will raise the money in 12 months.

How much money will they raise in total? £100,000!!

Here are some children who have already been raising money.

Henry Graham wanted to help! He is 13 years old. He cycled 142 miles in one day. He raised £2184.

Danny and Abigail – Riding The Jack Mytton Way Mia – Riding Side Saddle These are real life examples of challenges.

There are lots and lots of children doing different things. Guess what these children are going to do?

Remember, simple things raise money too. Can you skip?

=£100 Remember! every single £ helps reach the grand total.

How could you and your group raise £1000? Let’s have a moment to think of as many money making ideas as we can! Sponsored swim Cake sale Dress-up as a sporting hero for a fee Sponsored silence Clean and tidy your bedroom

What is Sammy’s Challenge? Biking to and from St Andrew’s School and home (approx. 5 miles each way) for the four days of the final week of term Would you like to join him?

If you can ride a bike up and down hills for 5 miles, you can join Sammy and his brothers on their final journey on Thursday 10 th April from school to the Apley Farmshop…… Celebration!!!!!

The K12 challenge has its own website where you can find out more.

Every team or individual who completes the challenge will be recognised with a plaque on the wall of the Cavalier Centre to commemorate their effort and help.

Good luck ! & Have fun!
