IntroductionTask ProcessEvaluation Conclusion Teacher Page Exciting News!! You have been chosen as student representatives to help in the creation of a new lunch menu for your school! The JCPS nutrition staff wants to know how they can make healthier school lunches that students will want to eat and they would like your input. If you want to help make school lunch better, you must first learn the keys to creating healthy balanced meals. Teacher

IntroductionTask ProcessEvaluation Conclusion Teacher Page Task 2: Your group of 5 will create a menu for one week’s worth of school lunches that are balanced and healthy. As a group you will create a poster displaying your menu. Task 3: Each student will also choose ONE of the following writing assignments: 1)Write a letter to the Director of Nutrition Services for JCPS with a specific idea that can help improve the nutritional quality of our school lunch and why you think it will help. OR 2)Write about at least two things you have learned about nutrition that can help you eat more healthfully. What are some specific positive changes you can make to your eating habits? Task 1: Each student will use the internet to search for a food label from a packaged food item to evaluate and write a summary of it’s nutritional value.

Objectives: -Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to decode food labels. -Students will interpret and apply the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. -Students will demonstrate understanding of MyPlate. -Students will compose an opinion piece and support ideas with reasons and information.
