Type of Government The United States of America has a presidential republic. This means that the citizens vote for president, senators, and representatives. We vote for our government which means the citizens choose who they want to represent them in the government.

Structure of Government The government is divided into three branches: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branch. The executive branch carries out laws. The executive branch is made up of the President. The legislative branch makes the laws. The legislative branch is made up of Congress, and Congress includes the Senate and the House of Representatives. The judicial branch makes laws and is made up of judges.

How the Government is Chosen The citizens vote for President. You must be 18 or older to vote. The citizens also vote for the House of Representatives, Senators and judges. In each state, the citizens vote for the governor, mayor, and council members.

How Does the Government Impact the People? The government provides housing and food support for low income people. The government makes people pay taxes. The money goes toward infrastructure (roads and bridges), homeland security, and police and fire. In the U.S.A, the Bill of Rights allows everyone the freedom of speech, religion, a fair trial, and assembly. The government also helps with jobs and public schools.
