Peninsulas A landform that is surrounded by water on ONLY 3 sides. Florida is a good example of a peninsula.

Islands A landform that is completely surrounded by water. Some islands are the tops of mountains poking through the water surface. Hawaii is a good example of an island.

Continents The land mass of Earth is divided into continents. There are 7 continents on earth. They are Africa, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America, and Europe.

Mountains A very tall landform that is created by forces beneath the earth. The tallest mountain on earth is Mt. Everest. Mountains can be pointy or rounded on top.

Rivers A large flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean. The Mississippi River is the longest river in the United States. Rivers act as transportation systems for many communities.

Deserts A very dry area with few plants and little rainfall. Covers 1/3 of earth’s surface. Made up of soil and loose dirt.

Oceans A large body of salt water that surrounds a continent. Oceans cover 2/3 of earth surface. There are 4 oceans: Atlantic Pacific Indian Artic

Forests A large area of land where many trees grow. 3 main types: Rainforest Coniferous Deciduous
