Article Recap Boys receive more attention (Teachers excuse: ill-behaved boys need it) Girls learn to become passive in the classroom Historical figures are predominantly male (war heroes, politicians, scientists, inventors, etc;) In extreme cases, teachers tell students which gender is right for certain careers.

Discussion Questions This article stresses on the fact that girls are stripped of opportunities that boys have. Do you feel that there are some opportunities given to girls that boys dont have? What are they? Why might they be a problem as well?

How do gender stereotypes contribute to differential treatment in classrooms? Do you see any forms of sexism at PHS? (Please dont mention names) Where, and which gender is most associated with gender discrimination? Why?

Do you think its fair that boys get more attention because they are slower at maturing and developing than girls are? What is the best way to deal with children who learn differently and who are interested in different things? Discussion Questions

Article Discussion What social components may children taught in single-sex classrooms gain in comparison to those taught in coed environments? What social components may they lose? Should it be the students or parents decision regarding what type of classroom a student should learn in? Why?
