Germany at the Olympics Since 1896, when the first Olympics of the modern era was held, Germany has participated in most Olympic Games. Germany was banned from participating in the Olympics for a time after both World Wars. Germany was divided into two countries from 1945 to During this time, both West Germany and East Germany boycotted one game each due to political reasons.
