Technical Theatre INTRO TO COURSE SYLLABUS, NORMS, AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFO

RULES FOR THE ROOM (NORMS) 1)Take responsibility for your own learning and the steps necessary to accomplish it. 2)Help each other to become more skilled artists. 3)Respect the room, each other, and the art form. 4)Follow the Policies/Procedures (outlined in the handout) 5)Be an active participant in classroom activities. 6)Take calculated and intelligent risks. 7)Time is precious - don’t waste yours or anybody else’s.

ENDURING UNDERSTANDING Technology is important in Technical Theatre. Safety precautions must be followed when participating in technical aspects of a production. Collaboration is essential to Theatre. The areas of Technical Theatre include design and production elements.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS How can technology suppliment the Elements of Design? What precautions are necessary to insure the safety of technicians and performers? How do the elements of technical theatre work together to realize the director’s vision? What are the roles of the design and production teams?

SYLLABUS REVIEW – WHAT’S IMPORTANT? 1)Find 2 other people you don’t know well. 2)One person get the Syllabus packet for each person in the group. 3)Someone each in the group get a highlighter for each group member. 4)The last group member get 3 sticky notes - 1 for each group member. 5)Find a place in the space and read the section Forrest tells you to read. 6)Follow the directions Forrest tells you. 7)Put your Syllabus somewhere safe at the end of the activity.

QUIZ #1 – OVER SYLLABUS/PPH This is the only non-open note quiz you will (hopefully) have in this class. This quiz is Aug 21. Make sure you review both handouts before this quiz. This quiz is worth 25 points.
