El Rescate Tribute Mural Considered the greatest Mexican painter of the twentieth century, Diego Rivera had a profound effect on the international art world. In a series of visits to America, from 1930 to 1940, Rivera brought his unique vision to public spaces and galleries, enlightening and inspiring artists and laymen alike. Diego Rivera was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in He began to study painting at an early age and in 1907 moved to Europe.

In Europe he learns about the wall frescoes of the Renaissance He believe art should be accessible to all in Mexico no matter the social class For him, the frescoes’ size and public accessibility was the perfect canvas on which to tackle themes of the history, progress and future of humanity. Like Diego you are creating art accessible to everyone that follows the progress of you town and its hero

By the end of the period your group should (1) have a tribute topic chosen, (2) have all group members signed up for a square on the mural rough draft, (3) have pencil sketches of what will be included on your mural Sarah’s square David’s square Draw mountains here Draw hero saving people here
