2. Early Life
Frida was born in a small town outside of Mexico City in Mexico.
Her grandfather was a painter.
As a child, she wanted to be a doctor.

3. Her Painting Career Begins
As a child, Frida helped her dad in his photography studio.
In 1925, Frida was in a bus accident.
While healing, she began painting.

4. Early Painting Career Frida married a famous artist, Diego Rivera.
They travelled all through the United States.
Frida painted full time.
In 1931, Frida had her first public showing of this painting in San Francisco.

5. Frida’s First Art Show
In 1938, Frida had her first solo art show in New York.
She showed 25 paintings.
Half of them are sold.

6. Paris In 1939, Frida went to Paris.
The Louvre purchased one of her paintings – this was the first art work by a Mexican artist that they had purchased since the 1800s.

7. Health Problems Throughout her life, Frida was not healthy.
Despite her health problems, she continued to paint.
This was given to her doctor after he saved her life.

8. Frida and Diego’s Activism
As artists, Frida and Diego used their influence to help other people.
Even when she was sick, Frida showed up at events that helped working people of Mexico.

Frida was known for her self portraits that showed different aspects of her life, including her health problems.
She also was known for her bright colors and real life depictions of every day life, with a bit of her imagination included.
Some people would consider her art to be surrealism.
