EDEN-IW Ontology A structured list of keywords from the Water area With translation between concepts And between languages And between hierarchical level

EDEN-IW Ontology Terms: –parameter names –water framework directive terms Concepts: –organisation of parameters, ID’s and grouping –catchments and river systems Relationships between: –data value, sample, parameter, station, time, etc.

The EDEN-IW Ontology permits queries to 4 databases These are integrated and mapped against each other The Ontology covers a significant number of water related indicators, Multilingual user interface, Queries in the current prototype is limited to the use of a single language.

Terminology in EDEN-IW EDEN-IW Glossary EDEN-IW Terminology Reference System EDEN-IW DBs specific terminology (CMT) Identify and apply Reference Specific Terminology through Deliverables 1. Terminological analysis 2. Overall terminology management 3. Provision of definitions 4. Organisation of terms in a basic structure

EDEN-IW Terminology Reference System

EDEN-IW DBs Specific Lexicon: A reference multilingual list of basic determinands, impacted IW media, parameters, types of analytical fractions and measurement units. Inland Water Domain Lexicon: A general purpose, shareable reference background terminology of IW in four languages; A set of synonyms in four languages; A set of definition in English for the terms of the TRS. Main Results

The Future of the EDEN-IW TRS Extension of the EDEN-IW TRS: Waterbase terminology (already in progress); Terms from other databases; Terms from external relevant sources. Applications of the EDEN-IW TRS: Use, as a reference tool, of the EDEN-IW TRS by other institutions, projects (i.e. EMWIS - The Euro-Mediterranean Information System on the know- how in the Water sector ), etc.; Inclusion of parts of the EDEN-IW TRS into existing TRSs; Inclusion of selected EDEN-IW terms into one or more Thesauri.
