Aim: How do you design an experiment ? Scientific Inquiry is about asking questions.

Wetland Discovery –Deformed Frogs What questions do you have?

What is in the water that may cause deformities? What is in the mud that may cause deformities? Is the condition inherited? How many frogs were normal, how many were deformed? Were deformed frogs found in other ponds?

Water Quality Parameter Fecal Coliform Turbidity Nitrate and Nitrite N Dissolved Oxygen Total Phosphorus Compare readings to EPA quality standards Are there other contaminants in the water? Are there other contaminants in the mud? Are there contaminants in the air?

Hypotheses Low dissolved oxygen in the water is causing deformed frogs High concentrations of mercury in the mud is causing deformed frogs Something (be specific) in the air is causing deformed frogs

Design an Experiment that tests your hypothesis Test the water for dissolved oxygen to determine if it meets EPA Clean Water standards HYPOTHESIS: Test the water for mercury and if present determine the levels HYPOTHESIS: Test the air for pollutants (be specific) HYPOTHESIS:
